Whats your thoughts? Erya vs Puma. Ride, performance, etc.
does any one have an opinion? I know you do. need help deciding on new puma or Erya. decisions decisions
You may try a search on this topic both here and on BBC. Lots of info in both places.Basically, I can speak to a few issues that may help:1) Both are great boats with tons of storage and tournament platforms.2) Theoretically, the Eyra is slightly faster. Maybe 1-2 mph. This is theoretic. Some puma ftds will run 80 plus loaded light, set up well, and well driven. 3) The Eyra has newer styling and color patterns but this is simply a personal preference – both gorgeous boats.4) The storage layout is different on the front deck. Puma is deeper and has more smaller storage areas. The Eyra has the coffin lids, which I really like more and more every time I use them.5) Theoretically the Puma may be better in rough water. Once again, this is theoretic. Real world reports from people who own both occasionally even like the Eyra better in rough water. Take home message- both good in rough water.6) Puma is two inches longer. Front deck is slightly longer than Eyra.7) I like the access to batteries etc. in the Eyra better but both tons better than most bass boats out there.Im quite sure others will be along to post way more that this, but that should get you started.
For what it is worth, BCB products are the BOMB. The Puma may offer a little better ride in rough water since it is a few inches longer. IF I faced rough waters like Kentucky Lake or the Great Lakes frequently, I may opt for the longer boat. You do sit a little lower in the boat with an Eyra compared to the PUMA. If I were to buy a 20 boat, I would opt for the Eyra. However, there is no wrong choice here. Here are the things to consider:1. How agile are you? If you are large and challenged with coordination, the PUMA is the boat for you.2. If you like the feel of a sports car, such as a BMW. Buy the Eyra. Keep in mind, you do sit lower in the Eyra. The Puma is probably a little easier to get about in.Hope this outsiders insight will help. I personally run a PII, but have rode in each of the models you mention. Best of luck with your choice.
Cef1965 makes a good point about the lower seating in the Eyra. I am 511″ and the Eyra seat and hot foot set up fit me just right. Its very secure to sit down in the boat at high speed, at least to me. I think if you are below 58″ or taller that 62″ then you really need to sit in an Eyra and see if it feels ok to you. One other thing is that the Eyra handles like a sports car. It probably is better than the Puma in that department, but Im not sure that matters much.
I just got out of a Puma and into an Erya. Honestly I dont have enough time in the new boat to say one way or the other. I like the storage better in the Erya but it is probably less room by a little bit. The lower seats seem more secure. The hotfoot is a concern if you are very tall as referenced above. I fit nut its tight – but Im 6″5. I think the Eyra is faster – 78 on the first real pass after break in but that was not 100% – my 6 yr old said “its like we are flying!”. I was trying for everything she has and it seems like 80+ is very realistic. If you are in central Arkansas PM me and you are welcome to take a drive. John
Tmoss,Blakesfav is an orthopedic surgeon as I recall. I am a RN. At present, my specialty is hospice. Most medical people tend to be rather objective in their perspectives when evaluating questions. As such, we tend to sideline any biases. Hopefully this will help in your decision process, as we are not trying to sell you one way or another. If you are taller than 6, you may look at the PUMA. If you are less than 6, you may see the Eyra as a sports car. Again, this is not to sell you, but to try and make you an informed consumer.Carky Freeman
i own a 07 Puma, my son is about to buy an Eyra. it sounds like he is making the right choice. Thank you all for your input. it looks like there will be a new cat in the family soon!
Well hearing that the decision is made, and going against Carkys excellent point on the objectivity drilled in us via medical training, Im going to give you my biased opinion:THE EYRA IS JUST PLAIN BAD TO THE BONE!Excellent choice!
I had a 10 Puma FTD and last year an 11 Eyra… here are my comparisons…Puma vs. EyraStyling – Eyra (personal opinion)Storage – PumaCornering – EyraStraight into waves and with them – (Puma) (not by much)Front deck layout – Puma (personal choice)Rear deck layout – EyraSpeed and hole shot – Puma with 26 Fury / SHO – 80.5 mphEyra with 27 Fury / SHO – 81.7 mph (pretty much identical)I think overall both boats showcase BassCats ability to flat out engineer winning performers… both will appeal to a certain buyer with different layouts and moderate styling differences but they will both run like a scalded cat and handle themselves better in the rough than almost anything trying to run with them.Good luck with your choice Tmoss, either way youll be thrilled.JP
