I recently purchased a 2005 pantera classic with a 200 Evinrude DFI I have not heard alot about evinrude here in vermont. I called a marina locally and they said it was a fine motor. I had the dealership that I bought the boat from perform a leakdown test and everything was good. I was wondering what some of the other bass cat owners felt about evinrude versus optimax which is what alot of the guys around here run. Thanks for any input
We have nothing but good to say about that particular engine. They will burn a few extra gallons of gas and oil, though they are good engines. BCB
Mercury, E-Rudes, and Yamaha are all great engines. Personally my favorite is Merc but if I were looking to buy a boat and found one that I liked I would buy it with any of those three motors.
Nivek – I also have a Classic (2007) I bought this past Spring and also fish out of VT southern part of the lake Buoy 39 marina Orwell. You will enjoy this boat and its quick. Are you on Champlain? North or south?
I fish in the southern vermont bass club. We fish both north and south on champlain and most other larger lakes in vermont. Im headed to larabees on sunday to try out boat for the first time. I live in brownsville VT. about an hour and a half from orwell. Thanks for the reply.
The Generation 3 DFI Evinrude motor is the Pillar of Reliability….Seriously, eclipsing ALL DFIs….Unfortunately BRP took that Refined/Perfected OMC tech and made it E-TEC, which was terrific, minus the 6month TOO SOON intro of the 2005 MY 225 HO, With boat companies knocking their doors in for the 225 HO ETEC, BRP released it too early, which was their fault…..we know the results, cylinder #2 explosions, and Lightning 1 lower unit destruction. On your BRP HO I would have the Lower Unit checked just to make sure its “All OK”…..that motor is a troque MONSTER, great on oil and fuel, Sounds like a Formula 1 Race Car at 13,000 rpms!!!!! Oh, and it produces OVER 225hp at the prop, Guaranteed……Brannon 847-450-4011
With all due respect HOman, the company introduced, showed and demonstrated the product creating interest for it prior to release. Do not drop any blamer on any boat company for this one. If you show it and inform dealers and consumers it will be ready in August, then meet that goal, no matter the brand. Which is why certain engines of varying brands and horsepower were not displayed or promoted prior to production engines by BCB in recent years. Note no 150 Pro XS promoted in early 2010 cy and no 250 HO at the 2011 Excellence In Action meeting. Engine companies should not promote specific labeled products until just before they release them for retail from production. This has been an issue going back to 1985 and the Suzuki Super Six, and continued through since that time period for all brands at times.
nivek – have fun Sunday. Im heading up Tuesday for a few days. Let me know how you do. Fishing has been weird with the high water and water temp is still pretty warm for almost November. Post a picture of your boat when you get a chance. There are a lot more Bass Cats on southern lake then Ive ever seen before. Will keep an eye out for ya.Brian
Well I got out Wednesday on Lake Champlain and it was cold. A brisk 28 degrees at launch warmed to mid 40s during the day but with a very brisk south wind it didnt feel warm at all. Im all bundled up after a SLOW ride down to meet some friends at the Ticonderoga launch. Fishing did not go well and im calling it the season. To All Wave to winterize the motor and put her away. It was a fun first season, I look forward to many more with the Cat.
We have another one headed that way next week. They will get to break it in, then polish it this winter it appears. Though the dollar exchange rate has been in your favor lately so that has been a motivation. BCB
