Brother and I went there a little over a year ago. Loved it. Absolutely loved it. Fishing was kinda messed up a bit due to the super high (and rising) water. Went out with a guide by the name of Charlie Harleson. Super neat guide and extremely knowlegable about the lake. Would love to go back just too damn far from Alabama. We had to laugh cause by 9 in the morning we were culling 4 and 5 lb bass.
Falcon is awesome to say the least. I will be down there fishing with Charlie sept 16th and 17th. jigging make sure you give us a report when you return. You can also check reports here. http://www.tackleandrods.com/lake/flash.htmJames is the know it all down there. Also Tommy law has up to date reports as well. http://falconlakeguide.com/blog/I hope yall get some pigs. You boys talking about “big girls” & “pigs” almost makes me think this is a Texas version of DeliverenceJohnny
sooooooooooooooooooooooooeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, pig!can you smell it, fellas…..that sweet aroma is SEC FOOTBALL in the air !
Hey BPetru James and Tom are a trip we try to set aside a few hours to boil crawfish and have a few cold ones I had nothing but a good time down there .
that they are. There fishing reports are the funniest things i have ever read. James should try stand-up comedy. It is definately a great fishery. From what i have been reading and heard from the grapevine they just had a fish spawn down there. That lake is going to be great for the next couple of years. Wish i didnt have to wait till the middle of september to get back down there. The anticipation is killing me. Yall should do well down there. Tight Lines and Good Fishinghttp://www.demonrods.com/
im from north la. also….i went there in 96. it was off the hook way back then..which way did you go? im wanting to go back soon.
Any Pictures?
Im from McAllen which is close to Falcon and a word of warning; your guide knew where to keep you away from the danger zones of Lake Falcon. I would advise anyone going there to stay away from border areas and certain bridges on the Mexican side. There are random shots fired quite frequently and a bullet whizzing by while on an outing is a little more excitement than you bargained.http://www.vrbo.com/297770
I will be down there next weekend. Taking my father on a two day guided trip with Charlie Haralson. It is a great lake that is for sure. Tight Lines and Good Fishinghttp://www.demonrods.com/
Hopefully the water will be down a bit. The rising water has spread them out a little, but roadbeds and bushes seem the best right now. The roadbeds arent really roads it seems like, like you would see at Fork or somewhere like that, but more like old dirt roads or “haul” roads as we called them, but very easy to spot. We stayed entirely on the US side, mid lake. The guides told us the pirate problem was from a few lower level bad guys who held up folks and when the extra law came down, that brought too much pressure to the upper level bad guys, so the big boy bad guys took the little boys out behind the woodshed so to speak… Ive heard great things about Haralson as well. Bring big stuff. 7-6 rods, 25# flouro and if you are anywhere near bushes, XH rods and 65# + braid. Heavy 1oz spinner baits, 7″ yum dingers tx rigged, flippin craw tubes in bushes. Crack their heads. We live in Monroe. We went I20 to Carthage,TX exit. Hwy 59, south through Nacogdoches (good lake there too) through Houston, down to Hwy 16 that goes into Zapata. It was 700ish miles, took about 11 hours. You could hump it and maybe do it in 10 hours from Monroe, but by the time you stop for gas and stretch your legs, 11 hours. Its a long drive, but really not that bad. We were dreading the drive, but it was ok going and coming.
For pics go to robertsfishntackle.com and look at his Sept. 7th report.
