Just ordered one off of TW. Are they as good as Crews says they are? The talk about the hunting action is why I bought it. Just wondering if you all have tried it. – Chaz
I have used them SuicideNemisis, i really like them for covering a lot of water and have had great luck for both Largemouth and Smallmouth on them. I fish them on a longer rod for casting distance on 14 or 15 lb mono and if I want them down a bit I use fluoro. Rod is a medium heavy, moderate fast action.I have had the chance to fish with the whole Little John series from Spro and really like them. I really get them good on the DD as well.JP
Thanks JP.My plan is to use them covering a huge sand and gravel spawining flat. It really was the talk of the hunting that peaked my interest. XCalibur square bills are kicking butt in the heavy stuff, but thats where they shine. All of my crankin reels have either 17 or 20lb flouro on them. Will the heavier line negitavely affect the action of the bait?Chaz- Chaz
No it will not. I was disappointed in mine and will be selling them soon. They did not come thru cover near as well as the KVD square bills. And I had to tune 2 of the four Fat johns that i got.
Tray,Good to know. I shied away from them because of the more tombstone shaped bill because of the cover issue, but for open gravel flats it should be fine. But the tuning issue, hmm, thats not cool.- Chaz
The main thing with the heavier line is that you will lose diving depth SuicideNemisis. Your action will suffer a little but by tying a loop knot you can help that. 17 is as high as I would go since casting distance can also shorten itself with the thicker diameter lines. The nice part about the bait is that circuit board lip which is super durable and gives off great vibration compared to a thicker plastic lip.
Yeah I get the depth thing, but theres no worries on that. If I find three feet of water on that flat I will consider that a deep hole. Tidal rivers are something else. And I use a snap with all my crankbaits anyways. Thanks again,Chaz- Chaz
