I know this has been beat to death, but Im just day dreaming at work and looking at other models. Honestly, when I get another boat, I think it would be another Eyra. Why:Coffin lids: Love not having to walk off the front deck to access all my tackle. Not sure I can ever go back to standard lidsFoot pedal location: even though I havent moved my trolling motor pedal back, nice to have that optionBilge area: Eyra has some storage there for oil/tools, other models dont seem to have it. Also Eyra seems to have the easiest access to pumpsHandling: runs windy creeks with easeWhat Id Change:a wider front deck, mainly for more stability when fishing offshore (which is rare for me)If I had to pick a different model, it would be the Puma FTD I guess, but honestly love the Eyra.
Smbass- I am on my 3rd Basscat. 08 Cougar Adv, then 13Cougar FTD, and now 17 Eyra. I have loved them all but I do think my Eyra is the best. I have only had it 6 weeks but it is awesome! Still getting used to the coffin lids but thats getting better every time out. The part I love the best is the handling. I can run the rivers and creeks so much faster than my other boats because it turns like its on rails. I am still working my way up to top end…managed to run it to 77 so far and then I run out of room. The part I am still working on the most is storage. I feel that I have less storage in the Eyra than my Cougar FTD. How are you storing tackle and accessories? Also, where is this extra storage space in the bilge area? I could use any extra space and I havent noticed any area in the bilge to do so. I have 2 Power Poles and that may make a difference. Thanks. Tony D2017 Eyra / 250 Merc Pro XS
Caracal. Pros WIDE. Fast, fishes great ! Cons. 0
Jaguar, unlimited storage, unparrelled rough water performance yet still nimble on the troller.
Eyra, because of how different the outside looks from the other models. Im certain all the models fish well, ride well, have plenty of storage for whatever I need; so for me its the appearance/design that trumps the rest. I suspect that the Lynx and forthcoming models will try to take on more of an unique look and eventually surpass the Eyra.
Puma FTD: Room for everything, storage for days, fishes great rides like a dream and I never get passed.
texlacat, I have all my plastics on one side adn all my boxes on the other side and have plenty of room. I put the boxes upright on their short side and can fit 2 in each of those slot dividers. In the bilge area, I have a little storage shelf between each tank on the side of the boat. I dont have PP so maybe thats why you dont have that area?
this is the title “Favorite BCB model and why “, but my answer wont help much when looking at another boat, unless the new Classic might be comparable. My “favorite” is the 1990 Caracal Pro that I had. At 17, it had the width to fish like a bigger boat. With a 135 (it was rated for a 150) I saw speeds of 60mph. Yeah, I know it wasnt an 80mph boat like todays, but for its time it was quick. Lids opened into the boat so you didnt worry about dumping rods over if you happened to open with rods laying on them. Also, by opening into the boat, you could access the rods while it was on the trailer.Jones Trolling Motor Services870 773 3474Motorguide/MinnKota/PowerPole/Lowrance/Humminbird
203/Puma Hybrid. I hope they finish it soon. Runs like a Champ, fishes like a Cat.
