Im upgrading the electronics in boat. I ordered a Sherms Mount but as you can see from the pic below that hole in the dash is a little wider than the mount. Has anyone ran across this before and if so what did you do? Im thinking about ordering a piece of 1/4″ Starboard and cutting it just a little wider than the mount to cover the gap. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
You are likely on the right path. I recently used some of the new-style, exterior plastic boards used as house trim to “neaten up” some areas that had extra holes from earlier electronics. It created a much improved look.
FIND A LOCAL RUBBER AND GASKET STORE . GET SOME UHMW BOARD COMES IN WHITE, BLACK, GREEN, AND OTHER COLORS. THICKNESS OF ONE EIGHT AND UP . EASY TO CUT AND BEND TO DASH.
If you have a countertop fabricator around ,they will likely have scraps of sold surface material such as Corian or Avonite which is strong in 1/2 inch thickness and can be cut routed and polished to give a professional look. It also comes in wide variety of colors.
