After much research, I finally completed the deal on a new Pantera Classic today. I hope not to annoy everyone with all of my questions, so Im apologizing in advance. Finally, I can say that I own one of the best bass boat ever made.

Wow, I havent even taken delivery and Im getting a response from the folks at Bass Cat. If I would have gotten this level of response with my last boat manufacturer, I might still own that boat. Guess that everything Ive heard about Bass Cat customer service is true. Misr12 & Youngblood93, thanks for the well wishes. After 6 years and a lot of out of pocket money spent on my last boat, I hope to reap the benefits of purchasing the best product available. First question: I have a 200 Opti w/ jackplate. How far should the prop shaft be set below pad initially? I need a good starting point. Thanks again everyone. Cant tell you how happy I am to be part of the family.

Im no expert, but I think a decent place would be about 3.5″. Not totally sure… But, its just my guess.Dan Yonan. ———————————————————

Welcome to the “Family” Doc…Im know youll enjoy your new ride! I would start 3.5″ to 4″…See what that does for you, than you can start making adjustments to fine tune it in…

Doc, Welcome to the Family. This is your online, continually updated, owners manual. The Classic is a hot rod hull—My best friend and tournament partner runs this rig, with a Tempest prop, and it will SCREAM, 70+ with two folks and tournament gear. Since this is a new boat, Id suggest that you load the front of the boat with gear(to add weight to keep the nose down), becasue you want the engine to work during break in. Get 3-4 hours on the boat, before you even worrry about trying to dial in the jackplate. Also be sure to add some fuel additive to the fuel on a regular basis—ethanol is not good for outboards. The height will probably be very close to the actual height you will need to start. Then depending on whether or not you have steering wheel torque, lower or raise it slightly in small increments of 1/4″ at a time. Once you get it broken in and are able to let it rip, then you can begin working on set up. BCB
