After reading all the experiences, oppinions, and even polls on outlawing the a-rig, I had to try it out for my self. Expectations were obviously high as I headed to the lake. Both of my sons (10&12) went with me to fayette county. For those not familiar, its a small powerplant res that has more fish and bigger fish per acre than anywhere else in the state. This had to be the perfect place to try out the new rig….. First off, my boys thought it was cool in concept, but stupid. I silently agreed. As we started, I thought of the irony if my sons out fished me. Just then, my oldest catches the first fish of the day in the same place Id just thrown. Haha….ironic. Maybe I was fishing it wrong. We continue and I have a few fish blow up on the school of swim baits Im throwing but with no hook ups.(all of my hooks were exposed). So I put it down and catch a fish on my first cast with a top water lure. Huh, even more ironic. I pick the magical a-rig back up and a few more fish follow it to the boat. They all seemed amazed at the offering of choices, yet confused as to which one to eat first. Like a hungry kid at a buffet. My oldest son then catches another nice fish on a jerkbait. This is getting funny.. I finally pic up a jig and quickly catch another bass. Wow…. So now its 4-0, in favor of pretty much everything else I own. Weve now in the space of 30-45 min caught fish in every part ov the water column w/o a single fish on the a-rig. My thoughts, outlaw it– or not. Absolutely whatever. Im certainly no expert with it and it didnt matter anyway! I dont have a side on the hate it/ love it debate. I personally dont care. Ill make my own(I lost my $35 on a random backlash w/65# braid) and Ill take it to the coast and catch multiple specks and reds on it……
