Finally fished a tournament that involved some pretty serious running… 140 miles round trip and we were blessed with great weather… the Eyra / 250 SHO produced great numbers but I think there is more in it still… heres the breakdown:Full tourney load: 30 plus combos, every compartment loaded… a partner who goes 220 and I weigh 250, 52 gallons of fuel and some pretty big sandwiches…lolOn the way out the boat ran a steady 77.5 to 78.5 mph with a 27 Fury at 5650 rpmsOn the way back in with full wells, a bit over 30 gallons of fuel left and 21 plus pounds of fish in the box it ran almost 76 mph at 5500.All in all the performance was great as I absolutely ate up every boat I saw by 6 to 10 mph… actually caught 2 boats that launched in the first flight that had a 20 to 25 minute head start…lolI am looking forward to running this set up alone with the Fury to see if it performs better than the Tempest Plus did… the hole shot was great without the wells and probably about 5 to 6 seconds with the wells full… the 26 Fury is definitely better out fo the hole when bogged with 42 gallons of water. As for the fishing… water temps dropped significantly due to a strong North wind blowing out the surface water and sucking the main lake water back into our area…. the temps were 64 before the event and 50 during… the fish were spooky and tough but we caught a 21.10 lb sack on day 1 and a 20.55 lb sack on day 2 cashing a check both days… the Eyra must be lucky since it has been 3 for 3 in the money! 5 Smallmouth on day 1, 4 on day 2 with a 3.13 Largie at the end of the day to cull us up another quarter pound.JP
That is awesome, congrats on the checks and good fishing,
Thats what Im talkin about! Congrats!
Great to hear you like the Eyra, so far sounds like it handles the big water as well as your Puma. Those speeds sound very good with the load you are carrying. Better not mess with the sandwich size, might get weak and pass out, gotta keep your strength up with those nice smallies!!! Did you mention where that tournament was, maybe I overlooked it. I should probably get my eyes checked?!?!?Always enjoy your reports JP, and Flyswatters. Guess I am a gear head, usually driving the boat if I cant catch any fish–more often than Id like to admit Do you just smile when you fly by all those other boats??? Bet you get a lot of attention at the boat ramps with that Eyra. Counting the days to my 2011 Couger. September wont come soon enough.Bill Mac
Actually Bill, when going by my buddies I give the paddling motion with my right arm as I tear by them…. they always get a good laugh out of it! We launched in the Bay Of Quinte in Ontario but we made the 60 plus mile run out to Lake Ontario.
JP,Congrats! Not sure if you have had time to query Turbos soon to be released new FXP prop for the SHO? It was made specifically for SHOs gear case. Also, Turbo is now owned by Yamaha. Anyway FXP is suppose to carry tournament loads better with SHOs vs Fury props. That a tall order but thats what the Turbo guys are saying. Also, the FXP props runs best high on the plate. Currently, I am benchmarking a 27T1 so I can convert those numbers with Turbo for most accurate transition to one of the FXPs at the end of the month. From my T1 bench marks running a 1″ below pad the 27FXP sounds like its going to be the prop I use for my four season prop in Alabama. The 27TI I tested today with similar load to yours hit 6035 RPMs. Speed increased accordingly. They Eyra is dynamic regardless of motor platform and your posts represent all BassCat strong positves. Kudos to you and thanks for posting. I know many like myself really appreciate the information.
Ill be very interested in hearing the results Fly…. keep me in the loop if you dont mind!
