I had the pleasure of fishing with Terry Battisti this past Friday when he decided to visit for a trip to Lake Erie. Water temperatures were starting to fall finally and the fishing was just ramping up on the Eastern basin hitting the mid 40s. We got out on the water around 8 am and by the end of the day put over 50 smallmouth bass in the boat with a variety of tubes, spider grubs and my new favorite and quite possibly Terrys as well, a football head jig with a 3.5″ Power Team Lures Craw Doeuvres. We concentrated on water from 26 to 44 feet in depth and it seemed that the smaller fish were deeper but in good numbers and the bigger fish were scattered on the ledges and breaks a bit shallower… we fished the numbers for a while and then decided to concentrate on getting Terry a 6 lber later in the day and it almost paid off… his big fish was a 5 lb 13 oz smallie. Our best 5 by days end went 26.58 lbs. Here are some pics from the day… Part of our 26 lb sack… small fish left out of the pic was a 4 lb 13 oz fish…lolWrapping up for the 10 mile run back to the ramp… sun was going down fast!JP
Sharp JP! Very nice day on the water, might even make a Texas bubba want to venture north to Erie in the break of snow. Those are some toads!
Anytime… the lake is open until it freezes!
JP come on down to SC, our lakes never freeze. We can take the Jag out and you can help me NOT Get Schoold! Thanks for the pictures.britt
I have been going to Canada to fish with JP and friends for four years now. I can say this, JP is a fantastic angler and a great friend. Although the weather up there this time of year dictates whether you get on the big pond or not, even one day on that lake is worth the trip from Idaho each year. Unfortunately this year the weather won out and we were only able to get on Erie one day. Still JP and crew took me and the US crew to Hamilton Harbour (Canadian spelling of course) Lake Ontario. The weather was bad but the harbor was sheltered and we caught some decent LMB. The crazy thing was they were in 2 feet of 45 degree water. LOL. One of the other guys from Mass caught a 25lb pike, a 13 lb brown trout and a 9 lb steelhead. Those on top of a 5lb LM. Good day.Anyway, Thanks again JP and Im already to go back. I was welcomed home by 1.5 feet (45 cm) of snow on Tuesday and this morning I woke up to a balmy -12 F temps with the high at 8 F. Its bad when you have to go to Canada to warm up. LOL.Looking forward to seeing the short segment on that Craw Doeurve we did.Take care bud and Ill talk with ya soon.TerryLast edited by Terry Battisti on November 25th, 2010, 5:17 am, edited 1 time in total.Terry Battisti
JP is a really talented and well known northern angler. Though many southern anglers would say who is Spence Petros. And as for the Lindners, who are these guys that catch walleye? Or Izu who>? Though most northern folks are well aware of JPs prowess. This is a link to JPs Facebook page and you can catch his show on WFN. http://www.facebook.com/s…uick&tas=search_preload#!/gettingschooldThis one will take you to his home page. http://www.jpderose.com/Catch it sometime!
Excellent!!!….thats a bag that would make a seasoned Pickwick angler envious! Good job guys!
Thanks very much for all the kind words BCB and Spud… fishing with Tater is a bunch of fun and we just love to rib each other! Here is a pic of Taters 5 lb 13 oz fish and another 5 lb 8 oz smallie… Tater goes about 62″ plus and well over a deuce…lol sorry Tater!
