Topic: fixed vs hydro jack plate?

Just got back from the Louisiana ALBC best 6 on toledo bend and placed 16th out of 83 ( good for a bunch of scrappy ol boys that dont fish there much!), and we won the draw boat! lol….was tossing around the idea of putting a hydraulic jack plate on my new PII…….any ideas if its worth the money as its comin with the 8″ slidemaster???

I think they are worth it because if the water is rough you put the JP down and it wont beat you to death, if you are in skinny water you jack it up so your boat side though. Because if you trim your motor up it pushes the back of the boat down. Thats my 2 cents.

i will not own another without a hydraulic plate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not that i use it that often as a rule but sure makes prop testing and setups a great deal easier. Shallow water take offs are great plus ability to adjust to changing loads and conditions

A hyd. plate ranks right up there with a Power Pole for me. You dont have to have it but its sure nice. Ill have one from here out.

On the other hand, we find most over tinker with hydraulic and tend to run too high. We prefer manual as there is no need to change the height once your setup. Plus there is a failure rate with hydraulic that does not exist with manual. Do what you please, though we would spring for another reel or three.

BCB is probably correct. It also depends,on the water you fish shallow, stumpy, water it is great! If I fished deep water primarily I probably wouldnt spring for one.

In my case I have to back up hill into my garage so without the hydraulic jackplate my cowling on the motor will not clear the garage door. I like being able to lower mine all the way down to clear the garage door because theres no way Im leaving my rig outside in the elements. Also nice on these ramps where loading is difficult to raise the whole motor up and save your prop from getting into the ground while loading. Other than that I would have to agree with BCB that its much nicer to setup and leave alone and spend that extra money on electronics or gear.
