I had some troubles last time out in my Margay. Im looking for repair suggestions. This is a 2015 Margay. I bought the Cystic prize boat.First For some unknown reason the mounting point for my rod locker shock just busted out. Second I ran over some rocks and made some significant scratches Repair suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,Tom
Im not sure but the glass break in the rod locker may be covered under warranty. The scratches on the bottom of the pad I wouldnt be to worried about. But the chunk missing/nicks at the very end of the pad needs to be addressed. A good local glass repair shop should be able to take care of it if you arent comfortable doing it. On a 2015 and because they damage is at the very end of the pad Id probably go with a pro but thats me. You can get the gel coat from Bass Cat Parts and the promoter at West Marine if you plan to do it yourself. Have your hull number handy when you call. Good luck.Brian
With a white bottom marinetex does ok for fixing the hunk missing around the pad.. On my other cat I repaired a few places lasted for yrs. Was still there when I sold the boat.Last edited by Redngoo on August 23rd, 2016, 2:06 am, edited 1 time in total.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
That needs glass backing replaced or an aluminum plate installed over the issue. There are numerous things that can cause this and excess stress, or it could be we just needed more glass than yours has and Margays are not excessively heavy to help performance. The factory would be glad to assist you if needed.
Im with BCB and others that commented on this. It appears where the rod locker broke, its possibly thinner on glass than usual. The pic isnt enlarged enough to make a good judgment call on that, but I would have to just about trip and fall on my door to rip it out on my Eyra. As BCB stated, it can be fixed via a Aluminum metal plate (Glassed plus riveted). If it were me and I had the time and patience, (Its a new boat) I would let the factory handle the repair, so its carried out properly. The missing chunk on the very rear of the pad I would also have them fix and pay the cost. Scratches can be buffed out. Its white and you will probably add more over the life of the boat. If the above isnt an option, bring it to a reputable glass shop!Last edited by Cajunhunter67 on August 23rd, 2016, 10:37 am, edited 1 time in total.
interesting I see a rubber seal around this box is this something new? My 13 does not have that, I do occasionally get water in my passanger side carpeted box and rod box if enough water comes over the bow. Is this the remedy for that?
Being in the Chicago area Id prefer not to drive it all the way to the factory for repair. I tried to bend a piece of aluminum to fit the corner for the shock mount and just could not get a good fit. Can Basscat make me something? Who would I need to call? what would I need to do?For the scratches can i just paint on a bunch of layers of gelcoat with a small brush then sand/polish it? Where can I get the Gel coat if that will work?ThanksTom
Tom, you really need to call the factory to get the answers you need on the rod box repair, you can also get some gel coat by calling the factory and they can assist you with how to apply it.
Tom – Shipping of the gelcoat with FedX, the courier BCB uses, is expensive due to hazmat requirements. If you have a BCB/Yarcraft dealer near you and BCB is sending a boat there, they will send the gelcoat with the delivery (you have to call, not order on line). Saves you a $30-$40 shipping. They did this for me recently and they were happy to do it. Yes you can paint the gelcoat on on scratches and sand but its a lot of time & work.
