Topic: Flat tire duel axle?

Today had my first flat on a Duel axle. Two questions is what does everyone recommend for a trailer Jack to carry in the truck because the one that came with my GMC is a piece of crap. I was thinking of a hydraulic bottle Jack. Second is curiosity of could I have removed the flat tire and limped home with just the single tire. Reason I ask is i had to put the spare on and am going fishing the next couple days with no replacement for the spare until later next week.

Ive carried a small 2 ton floor jack in a boat compartment for years in case of flats. Its especialy handy on single axle trailers since there wont be much room under the axle on a flat. For a tandem axle trailer, you can just take the one tire/wheel off and throw it in the back of the truck to get home if you dont have a spare. Hope this helps.

Something must be going around cause I just had to take a tire off.I backed the other wheel (side with flat) onto two 2×6 boards. The flat tire still was on the ground to allow me to loosen the nuts. |Then I used the front jack (the one attached to trailer with wheel) to raise the boat enough to get the wheel off.

Hmm…Ive never had any issues with the jack in my Sierra. Luckily only had to use it once, but it worked fine.

I keep a small floor jack in my truck also. It came in a plastic molded box. Pretty handy quite actually.

How about blocking with a block or rock under the good wheel and It may just lift the bad one up enough. No Jack necessary.

A bottle jack is to tall for a low axial and they tip easy.I like the GM scissor jack. They are light weight and have the long crank so you can push it under the axial without having to get down and crawl.Plus they fit in a nice plastic case.
