Flipping deck for older caracal

Hey fellow BCBers! I have a 1985 Caracal which i absolutely love! However, I would like to put a flipping deck insert in the boat to add standing room and storage. But it looks like BCB does not make one for this year model. Does anyone have any ideas or pics on how to make my own. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! -chase

Call the factory. They were winding down holding the molds for older flipping decks since our boats are not as new. One of the Cat builders up there may be able to make you one if none are hidden away.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner

i will check out bassboatcentral…thanks! Regarding the factory, they did not make one for my year model. For some reason in 86 they made the rod lockers open opposite of later models. I think this may cause a problem when making the insert. If i am sucessful in making one i will upload pics. thanks,chase

I had a 90 Caracal and the rod and storage hinged on the inside. I looked several times at building a deck and extending back just past the floor seat post, maybe even using the post to hold the unit in. Came to the conclusion that you will have to have a wide place between the lids and the lid of the flipping deck to allow for the rod/storage to open. even thought about calling Basscat to order a Lid from another boat as Im sure there isnt any Caracal lids left (the back livewell lid would be a perfect size) to use on a frame for the flipping deck. John, you are correct….one the size of the back livewell would be perfect! There is not much storage currently in my boat for anything! I have started working on the build and i have an idea. i will post pics as i am working on it. Hopefully it will turn out good!

here are a couple pics of the framing i have completed so far. My plan is to make almost the entire enclosed area storage with a top lid. I will post more pics as i get it completed. Sorry about the quaility…the lighting was terrible!

Pretty much finished with the framing and have added part of the top. This is where i will put the hinge for the top lid.
