I just read that FLW has 10 over the full field, and extended payouts 10 places.Does any think the Elites will have a full field?? I think they would but am not real sure.
As much as we would like to see a full field, we do not think that the Elites will fill easily. We are expecting a field of from 95 to 98 anglers in 2011, so close. Though we also want everyone to realize that there is a significant difference in the price tag of these events. Going forwards we are very confident that the Elite Series will be a great opportunity for those who manage to participate past 2011. BCB
What is the entry fee in an Elite BASS series event? $5,000? Just curious as to what these guys or sponsors have to shell out.
I actually think its more than $5000 per tournament unless they changed it up. I know they reduced the number of tournaments to try to make it a little more affordable last season, but I seem to remember them saying that entry fees were in the neighborhood of $50,000 for the season.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
Bama96- Heres an easy run down maybe for ya / 8 Elites 5000-5500$ each maybe / new boat 20-21ft w 250 $22,000- $32,000 more or less pending who you are and your deal w boat company / truck 24,000-50,000$ gas or diesel ( Skeete Reese doesnt count ) / Gas , food , lodging, tackle(rods,reels,baits-all pending if you have a sponsor) and oil ,this number figure could be anything from 10,000 – 30,000$ or more. This is what can consider just b4 you leave the house. To be on the safe side maybe just have 150,000 – 200,000$ laying around to go play and fish with for a year and pray you cash a top 10 chk in a few of them ,then you might get a few more sponsors or a better boat deal. When you can better yourself/family daily or yearly in this sport then thats an awesome accomplishment espicially when it comes to your family.
I just dont see how the mid pack guys make it. With the expenses associated with the sport. Entry fees, travel expenses, lodging etc.. I dont know how they can do it with a family either. Has to be a strain on the family with the time commitment.
Bama96- Me neither, but would have to agree w ya ,but heres one for ya to think about ! I wander what the divorce/child support payment ratio is for the tour guys
I admit I havent fished BASS Federation or tourneys in a loooooonnnnnggggg time, but I know FTDoo7 and others can answer this for me.When there is only 90-96 Elite anglers compared to when there was 100 or more, are “Elite” tournament basically through an established “invitation only” deal?In other words, the kid from the FLW that won the FLW championship a couple of years ago, but did not sign up to fish FLW this year since he didnt get a sponsor deal, could he feasibly call up BASS and say “youve got an opening in the Elites, I want in.”? If he ponies up his money for the first year or gets some local sponsorship, he could be eligible right away?Just wondering……..96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
Qualification only! Thus the limited field from those who fall out.
If you want to read an interesting book, that sheds light on the trials and tribulations of fishing a pro tour, get a copy of Bass Wars, I believe the author is Rick Taylor. (you can find it on Amazon or Barnes and Noble.) While the book was written, probably in the 80s or early 90s, it sure tells a great story. It compares a year on the BASS tournament trail of three anglers, Rick Clunn, Randy Blauket and and unknown at the time Randy Mosely. Since the book was written, the format of BASS has changed and of course the entry fees . But the message probably holds true today.
