Foam Seal from Stabil fell in gas tank

Was going to pour some Sta-bil in my tank before filling up. Took the lid off the bottle of Stabil and the little white piece of foam/paper circle from the top of the cap had come off and went into the tank. Tried to get it out, but its gone out of reach at this point. Should I be worried? I had a friend that did the same exact thing on another brand boat. Occasionally blocked the where fuel sucks from the tank and would kill the motor. Once he stopped the thing would float around again until the next time. He eventually had to remove it.

Possibly restrict fuel with timing high and could choke a piston.

Been there / done that !! — That seal is manufactured to withstand petroleum products , so its in there for the duration . — Unfortunately , you need to get it out of there , and I know this goes without saying , but be aware of this possible problem in the future . — I always pour mine into a spouted measuring cup before putting it into the boat . — ( I only had to remove the fill hose when this happened to me . ) — Hoss

that has to be a sick feeling. ive never had anything like that happenTHREAD MODIFIED DUE TO EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS SUGGESTION!!!DO NOT USE A SHOP VAC!Last edited by bwp777 on August 17th, 2017, 3:32 am, edited 2 times in total.

Shop vac would definitely be a disaster. BOOM, FIRE, and ruin your day and boat and life possibly.

I think best bet is to remove sending unit and peek thru hole with a good flashlight. Nothing? Use something to “stir” and peek again. No idea how hard access is. Bit of a PITA on my classic (remove seats + seat pan). You COULD go rent a gasoline-safe pump (with an input strainer) to see if you can grab it. But Id bet you will be able to see it thru the sending unit opening with a good lite and some patience.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

You have a bulb…use it. Siphon the tank, pull sending unit off (if possible) and some extra long pliers or whatever it takes. Hopefully you can get it out.
