Pictures for Joey… Here is a smallie that he caught on one this past weekend.
Thanks Judd, I appreciate it very much. Not sure what most of us computer illiterate folks on this board would do without you. Do not think I mentioned in presvious post but will build these skirts with either 60 strands for a more finese approach or 80 strands for a fuller effect. Price does not change. Thanks Again Joey watts
Joey, do you have any jigs with a rattle that you can add. Just a thought. I seem to like the rattles, and I want to order some of your stuff. Im a junkie for new stuff, and I want to support you in this business. Im still waiting on your spinnerbaits too – Im a real sucker for new spinnerbaits. Thanks KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
If I order some jigs, will you give me coordinates where you caught that smally on Pickwick?
Could not give you the coordinates. Have never learned to use a darn GPS !!! LOL To be honest, fishing 95% of the places I have fished. Have never seen the need for one. The only place I have fished where I could see me learning to use one, would have been Lake Champlain. Darn that place was huge !! But the fishing was from another planet !!!!! I caught all my fish the other day in staging areas. They all came off Main Points and Channel Swings. Caught every fish in 15 of water or deeper !! Kent, I got your email and will respond but thought I would answer part of your question here. Really had no plans for a rattle in a football jig but will be more than glad to check into it. To my knowledge I have never fished one with it. Most of the time I am fishing a football jig, is in fairly clear water and I like a more suttle aproach for that kind of fishing. But like I said, will be more than glad to check into and put them on there for you. Can have them here in just a couple days. Thanks again for everything and if there is anything I can do please shoot me an email. Joey Watts
Joey do you thing I could catch any drums on those jigs? How do you think they would work on grinnel and pickrel? Maybe youve got a catfish jig I could use………. BCC
Gary, can promsie you that this jig would handle all those fish you just mentioned. Will not find a better built jig. This hand tied skirt I am doing will not pull out and will break before it does that. Plus it will not rot like a standard skirt you buy from a store. I am using 24 guage copper wire to wrap them with. Take care and good luck. You are the only person I have ever seen catch so many trash fish while we are trying to catch a dumb Bass !!! LOL Joey
Hey guys. I just got some jigs from Joey, and I am very impressed with the quality. First of all, Joey did everything exactly like we discussed, and very quickly. I really like the thick, full silicone skirts. I like how he uses small wire to tie the skirts. The wire tied skirts is something that I look for with baits that have skirts. He used a Gamakatsu hook that I requested. The hooks are great, and the rattles look good too. The overall finish of the football head looks really good too. My initial opinion is that these are much better quality than most all jigs Ive ever purchased. I am a fan of War Eagle jigs and spinnerbaits because of the hand tied skirts and quality. Joeys jig quality is equal to or better than my War Eagle baits. I have a brand new War Eagle black/blue jig in the package. I compared it to Joeys black/blue jig, and I honestly think his looks better. Plus his have the gamakatsu hooks that I prefer. I dont mean to talk negative about War Eagle – they were my bait of choice prior to seeing Joeys jigs. I havent got to fish them yet, but they seem great so far. Ill definitely be ordering more in the future. Ill be trying some spinnerbaits when he gets that going also. Thanks Joey. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
Kent, not sure what to say except Thanks ! I appreciate the kind words very much. That was pretty much my goal when starting this and is why I call this Custom Tackle. I want to build stuff that is a little better than what you can buy off the shelf from some where. Want to build what you want and not what somebody wants you to buy. Have no desire to get into production stuff at all and will only build when I want or somebody else wants. Has taken me some time and money to build my inventory to what it is. Still have a ways to go also before I finish with everything but hopefully in the next few months the peices will start falling together. Thanks again for the kind words and hope you catch some fish on those jigs. Got some new color skirts coming in and have already added a couple new colors this past week. Added Madi Gras and it is a very pretty skirt. Also have Watermelon Red coming the first of next week. Build some Bream colored skirts for s guy in Alabama that was a special request. Turned out very nice and hope he likes them as much as I do. Take care and good luck. Hope we run into each other next week while in Mountain Home !! Joey Watts
Well I am a week later than I planned on but guess I am ready to start taking orders for these. Think I have everything needed to build just about any kind of football jig somebody wants. The pictures everybody sees are not all the colors I can build as I have a pretty extensive inventory of skirts. Plan on doing nothing but hand tied skirts on my jigs as I feel like they look better and also last longer. Like stated earlier, is my goal to build the best tackle I can for myself and for you. I can pour 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, 1 and 1 1/8 ounce jigs. On jigs up to 1/2 ounce I can use either a 60 degree flat or standard hook. Your Choice. On jigs over that I can only pour with 60 degree standard eye. Have plans to change this in the future. All hooks will either be a lite wire Gamma or Mustad but can pour with a heavy wire hook if somebody wants. I have them in stock also.If anybody has any questions or would like more information please feel free to email me. Will do my best to answer any and all questions. I appreciate very much everybodys responses and orders to my last post about what I am doing and building. Thanks again and look forward to helping some of you with your tackle needs and hopefully catch a few more fish with a bait you want !! Joey watts Flatlands Custom Tackle flatlands247@aol.com PS: I almost forgot. For jigs up to 1/2 ounce I am charging 3.00 dollars. For jigs over that I am charging 3.50. I have also added another shake it jigs mold to my line up for anybody that is interested. It is a ball style head with a collar and bait holder. This mold will except either a 60 degree flat eye or standard eye.
Do like I do- make your own! Cheaper faster better.C.O.D. Jr. III
Let me build you one and bet you would quit using some of the others mentioned in this thread !
Hard to say, but I dont think they use a lesser quality hook because it is Academy. When that happens, it is usually rebranded as an Academy brand “H2O Xpress”. May be a bad batch of hooks. You could try a different store if available, for the exact same jig to see if it is an isolated Academy issue.Or you could try some of the “custom” jig makers, such as Flatlands Customs or Real Deal Jigs. Custom makers can allow you to pick or create a jig in virtually any pattern. You could also make your own, which would be cheaper. Just be careful around the lead.Losing a lot of 4-6lbers makes me jealous, here its more like 3-4 lbers………Good Luck96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
DS, I use Jewel and have had no problem with them.
Open the hook up a little on the Jewel and seif it helps. PJs are a good jig, but ive gone Strike King and love them. I thin the skirts a bit, and use either trage craw trailers, or a fat albert twin tail. Summertime i go with a single tail grub for a faster drop. What line are you using ? Have you changed rod actions ?
