In a previous post, Brian had asked about additional stress on transoms due to SWAs. http://basscatowners.yuku.com/topic/273 … ors?page=1Shot a little video for those who may not have ever seen what the back end looks like while running. This particular day was by no means rough, just another day in South Texas with 15-20 mph winds. Motor movement is actually minimal, but you can get some idea of the stress 500+ pounds on the transom would have. As far as Brians question re: SWA leverage, from what I have noticed running up behind other boats with Power Poles or Talons mounted, the Talons do have much more movement. This makes sense, as the motors are mounted either at the top of the housing or on the side, high on the housing. This movement has to translate to more stress on the mounting brackets, at the very least.For your viewing pleasure…

Good video on that transom flex. But I have seen you drive….and I mean drive the Basscat. After…I dont worry about the transom or anything else on the boat!

My original question was for when these devices were actually deployed and holding the boat on a position during high wind usage. Ten to twelve feet creates a substantial amount of leverage in a small general area. It would seem to me the Power Pole absorbs a lot of the stresses in the pivoting points before it ever reaches the transom mounting brackets. Just my simple minded thinking and observations, this may also be a shining point with the Power Pole option. Yep. Pretty sure the stress from running is far greater than anything occurring during SWA deployment, regardless of brand or length.

I agree with ks. Most if the time when my poles or down they sink in the mud unless I am using them on the ramp.

Like most things I have torqued the crap out of my poles at times- all you gotta do is deploy them into rippled boat ramp concrete then let the wind blow while they try to hold onto the concrete of the ramp. What pp does is bend the flexible pole fist, then the poles a little but not much ever makes it to the bracket. Looks like a dude on stilts leaning real bad. But hey they said the pole thingy had a lifetime so what the hell right?C.O.D. Jr. III

Or do like me – deploy them where they stick then forget theyre down and take off with the motor.Kevin – nice video. Was that your prop taking air I heard? Mine does that sometimes when running with the waves.
