Any thoughts on fords new 6.7 diesel? Not trying to start any pissing match but I trust the oppinions I get here. Thanks
Very powerful motor. It has the pickup off the start that the 6.4 lacks without a programmer. You will not be dissapointed. 2012 F250 4 Door 4X4 Shortbox loaded… nice truck…I have an 2008 same truck with the 6.4 and love them both but the 6.7 is much quicker off the line. Not a big fan of the new additive but you wont find a truck without it today…
We just got 6 new 350s with them, and theyre beasts.
We just got a new one for boat deliveries in December and it got on the road in February. We dont have enough time to say much on durability, though the urea additive for EPA does have to be serviced more than we expected for a road truck. The truck is very powerful and we could only get an automatic transmission. Diesel fuel mileage empty is in the 20 mpg range or more if reasonable. All trucks we have now are 2 wheel drive. As of this point we are pleased and we already built racks for a second Ford one ton. It replaces a Dodge truck as we have run Dodge Cummins 1 tons since 1994, now owning 6 Dodges at this time. These we run to 300,000 miles each before considering replacements. Fuel mileage is not as good and they come home between 14 and 18 mpg depending on factors. If the Ford will hold up will be a remaining question, plus getting 300k out of an automatic transmission remains to be seen. It is a nicer driving and riding truck than the Dodges we have owned. The Dodges in fairness are all the previous body styles to late 2008, 2009. Over the years we had in depth trouble with two Dodges that did not last the 300k mileage. Though most were great trucks. Why Ford? We went Ford after the recent bankruptcies as we compete against industry companies that made our vendors business structures difficult, and thus those vendors were forced to make our business practices difficult to survive. This is the only reason we went Ford. Not to offend anyone though Ford sold everything it could to prevent a bankruptcy including the logo rights to the blue oval, much like we have done in the past with BCB to survive and continue, and not take that road to failure. So yes we have one and we are pleased to this early point With about 45,000 miles on it. Time will tell? Rick
I wouldnt buy a Ford diesel for at least another 2 years to see how this new motor does. There diesel track record has been horrendous for the past decade. I have seen pretty good reports on this new motor but thats always the case when a new motor comes out. If it were my money I would buy a duramax/allison. Resale on the duramax is without a doubt better than the rest.
Tx76 I run a ford dealership and as mentioned already Ford has had its share of problems with previous diesel engines 6.0 and 6.4. With that said the 6.7 liter has been an absolute wonderful motor. We have a number of customers that have blown by 100,000 miles within a couple of years and I have never seen any motor with more positive feedback than we get with this engine. We do a lot of business in the oil and gas industry and believe me these guys will put a truck and motor thru the ringer. If you get a chance to talk to a current owner they will have great comments on their trucks. Most of the problems Ford and other manufacturers have had with diesel engines were related to emission issues that were forced on the manufacturers about 10 years ago that caused a lot of re-designs to meet federal standards.Ford made a move about 4 years ago to bring the engine design back in house and away from international and brought the 6.7 out in 2011.The exhaust fluid that is used on newer diesel engines is not a big deal we see on average about a gallon per 1000 miles and you have a 5 gallon tank.I for one would highly recommend a 6.7liter diesel and it will look great with a bass cat behind it.
Snell,What issues are they seeing with teh 6.4? I only have 40,000 miles on mine what am I needing to keep my eyes and ears looking out for? Thanks
Hey Mark,The main thing is to be diligent on maintenance.High pressure oil pumps, coolant leaks, radiators. The 6.4 was much improved over the 6.0,but still see some issues that are common. If you have an extended warrenty good if not engine and drive train are covered for 100,000.We see more issues from guys that just run trucks hard and are lax on maintenance and that is not good. Most people that are not making a living with truck and mostly pulling toys do not normally have major issues.
My cousin just locked his 2011 F250 diesel up! Less than 30K miles!
Great. I just bought one! I agree with the principal of buying a ford as BCB stated. Also my personal preference. I got out of my 06 dodge at 174k due to looming transmission issues. Although I will miss the 5.9L cummins, the ford seems to be a very nice truck. As always, all oppinions are appreciated.
