I am retiring Dec. 31 after 47 years in the yearbook printing business and am thinking of fishing the 2015 Owners Tournament on Sam Rayburn with my wife and would like to know about how it works one day tournament or two? Registration and meeting or events etc. Larry Brumley 2010 Puma FTD
Two day tournament. Two take off locations. One weigh in site.Driving to second location for takeoff/checkin, and weighing via drive out transporting catch to weigh in from alternate site. Host is Sam Rayburn area association and Jasper.Meetings are not set yet as they hosted a social in 2013 and no information has been presented for 2015. Registration will be Wednesday at Rayburn Country and event is tentatively scheduled for the Thursday and Friday ahead of Easter weekend. More information will be presented in January. They usually have entry brochures 5 to 6 weeks ahead and are hoping to have them early in 2015, giving 12 weeks lead time.
Well we went ahead and booked our house same one we had last time at rayburn. Sure hope those dates hold up because we cant change them sure dont like the word “tentively”. I believe FLW is down the following week so the lake should be off limits which will also prevent some folks from fishing with the local stix that compete at that level. I know there are reasons some I dont agree with, but this event should have committed dates before the end of prior year OI. (i.e. we fish 2015 and before we leave we know when and where for 2016) I know I know its complicated well so is trying to get a weeks vacation, free up schedules, and get lodging 2 months before a event. In my opinion the lack of commitment is detrimental to growth of this tourney.

Bass Cat has to wait for BASS, FLW, and others to post their schedules to be able to line up the Pros. Then they have to wait on the Corp to approve the dates and then line up the transportation and logistics, which I am sure is a nightmare because they are not a company that just runs a Tournament. But they are a Boat Company that has this tourny for their owners and they have a lot on their plate at this time of year and way more when the tournament gets closer as that is also the Boat Show season. If they were a tournament organization I am sure they would have their ducks in a row way ahead of time, but they are not so cut them a little slack in the arrangements please. I myself applaud them on all the hard work that goes into this tournament, especially the ones away from Mountain Home because they have to arrange transportation and lodging for a whole lot of people and boats and supplies. I havent yet booked my room for certain, but have had a standing reservation because that resort knows I will be there come heck or high water.Just me venting Joe Fuerst

Lodging is not that difficult to arrange even a couple of weeks out. Granted it may not be on the water, but there will be lodging. Schedules, Bass Cat has to work around a lot of schedules, not just theirs. They did announce where the next 3 OIs would be held at this years OI, but the reality is that those dates in 2016 & 2017 would have to be tentative. Its called FLW and Bassmaster tournament series, BFL, Weekend series plus any other state trail that has a loyal following. They cant set a date then expect the majors to go around them. Still, my brother and I fished the GAF and the TxBCOE as well as the OI, enjoying the opportunity to meet owners at each event. That was due to Bass Cats commitment to owners across the country. They realize to grow they need to bring the OI atmosphere to other sections, but scheduling most likely will always be 5 months or less based on the major organizations, who have more members than we have as owners.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
Well the responses arent as surprise. First and foremost I appreciate all they do to put this tournament on, even during hard economic times they have still put their owners first. I know how complicated it is to plan logistics for large tournaments I help with one of the largest tournament held on Lake Guntersville every year. This being said the work they put in is very taxing so why take it up during your busiest time of year? The bass cat pros are very important to this tournament there is no doubt some more then others. K-Pink has been a fixture that could not be replaced, Kota plays a huge part as well bringing his american dream anglers over. Billy, John, and Joel always work really hard. Lets remember this tournament is not about those guys it is about the Pierce family, Owners, and BCB brand. Hard working owners that spend thousands on their boats. All this complicates scheduling no doubt. I dont have issues getting off I own my own business so I can play with the schedule to take the week off. I have travel partners and other friends who arent as fortunate and are required to put in for vacation time usually 6-8 months in advance. With a more difinitive date these types of folks could make a better effort of attending. I have owned 3 cats in the past 5 years and have attended the OI the last 2 years and absolutely love it. I know there are many that have been coming for years and have many more OI under their belts butt as an owner you have to start somewhere. The thing that makes this owners board so good is also the same thing that can make it extremely petty. We are all passionate about our boat brand but some folks drink to much of the cool aid and any comments that question BCB are met with such resistance. I love the brand, love the pierce family and what they stand for, have the best boat dealership Ive ever had since being a boat owner. I enjoy being part of a group of passionate owners but some times they think their **** dont stink. “IMHO” Look forward to seeing everyone this year at a great lake that is if Im still welcomed.
