2010 Puma/Fortrex 101 with 52″ shaft. I can only fit two 7ft rods on that side. Is there any way to raise the Fortrex an inch or two so rods will fit underneath? Next question is what are most running when fully trimmed out. My 05 Puma ran the best with smartcraft indicating 5.9. Running yesterday I had the 2010 @ 7.3 and didnt want to go more. I doesnt lift much until over six. Running 26 Fury plate set @ 1/4 and 250xs mounted in third hole from top. Thanks
I have a 1-2 inch pad undert mine that was installed in california at Lennys electric? in sacramento. If I had a single I could get 3-4 over thereC.O.D. Jr. III
Sheff, what kind of speeds are you getting with your Puma? Interesting your engine is in the third hole from the top, mine is in the second. I plan to have mine moved down to the top hole, per recommendation of BCB and Sherm. Interesting that you are able to trim that high. Ive not had mine over 2.8 on the Smartcraft gauge, at that point it seems to get harder to drive. I cant help you out with the Fortrex issue and your rod placement. Ive got a Motorguide, all my rods fit under it.
Engine was mounted at the factory. With the plate set @1/4 Im about 2 3/4-3 ” below pad. Yesterday with 72% in belly and 60% in rears, all my gear, co-anglers gear, me weighing 225, co weighing @ 205 or so (I didnt ask) and whatever water came in wells with it on auto and pumps off(about 1/2 I guess), 77 degrees outside and 65 degree water, we were runing 75.6. I have had it run 78 and change with the Fury. Maybe I need to run with palte all the way down? I have trimmed it as far as 8.2 while by my self testing props. Didnt want to go any farther yesterday with another life in the boat. I didnt have alot of steering torque and it wasnt chining much at all. I just got my 27 tempest baack from Croxton and Im going to test it next. This hull doesnt seem to like the 27 trophy(worked by Croxton as well). Holeshot was sloooww and it blew out pretty bad on nose over. Yesterday was only my second time running it hard. Seems I need to do more testing. What is your prop to pad measurement? Does it matter what hole it mounted in, as long as you can get it to the dcorrect height? I also running a Detweiller Hyd plate.
I was running it at 3″ below the pad, I know where that setting is on my Bobs Hyd plate gauge. Yesterday I lowered it all the way and didnt seem to make much difference. I think maybe it needs to be lower as BCB said. But then yours is higher than mine and you run much better speeds than I do. Or maybe we cant compare Puma to Cougar due to fuel tank placement, etc.
SheffDid you solve the issue with rods under the TM? Can you explain what was going on there? Was the TM hitting the reels or what?Reason I ask is I have a minn kota on my present (not a BC) boat and my friend has a motor guide. I was looking at them and the minn kota seemed to ride higher whne stowed than the motor guide, so I had more room for rods under mine. It made me wonder about your issue there. Thanks
The Fortrex is much larger than the standard 101. I made some 1/2 and 1″ spacers out of Star Board. 1″ was not enough so back to the drawing board. I did leave the 1/2″ installed for now to stop the arm from hitting the gel coat next to the acc and trim switches. My next step is to contact Interstate Plastics and see if they can make a 2″ thick sheet of Star Board for me. Im going to hav it made the same size as the TM base so there is not a huge gap between the TM and where it mounts on the bow.Sheff
I have seen some motorguides with a small rod attached to the motor near the head and props it up higher. Called a bounce buster rod. Not sure if you could use something like that but thought I would throw it out there.http://www.iboats.com/Motorguide-Bounce … _id.392122
