I bought an 07 Puma a few weeks ago and noticed that the front strap was routed under the lower of the 2 rollers. I assumed this was done by mistake by the previous owner and so I routed the strap in between the two rollers which seems to make more sense to me. I was just looking at lots of peoples pictures on the Best looking CAT post here and noticed that most people seem to have the strap run under the lower roller. Just curious as to which way this is supposed to be. I thought the only purpose of the lower roller was to keep the angle of pull up high in case the boat was way down low on the trailer. Also it sure winches up a whole lot easier when its routed in between the two rollers, otherwise when the hook gets close to the roller you lose all your forward force and are mainly pulling downwards.
Others will be along shortly to help, but think you can crank it up b/w rollers, but always tow with strap under both rollers and hooked to bow eye. Keeps the force down, there was a conversation about it on here of BBC not long ago. -Lee
You winch up between the two rollers, then cinch down under the bottom roller. This helps keep the boat in a secure position in the event of sudden stop.http://bbcboards.zeroforum.com/zerothread?id=27184796 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
The strap under the roller was also done as a safety factor in a head on incident as it holds the bow down. We have seen bow eyes that are rated at 14,000 pound straight pull shaped like a triangle where the strap and hook held them. Going under the rollers keeps it taught and better support on the strap as well as cushions it. We have seen a few hold in those circumstances and had they been only under one roller we have seen many fail in the single roller application. Almost catapulting it when the single roller and rope and strap break. There is enough stretch that when the boat jump or cuts through the roller the stress allows the strap or rope to break. How about 3500 pounds of boat coming at you from behind on top of the frontal incident.
Great thanks!I had also noticed there was an eye on the trailer almost directly under the eye on the bow (just slightly back from it) that wasnt being used for anything. I assumed this was for an additional bow safety tie down and so I added one. So Im also assuming that if Im using the additional tie down(and its tightly secured) that I could just leave the strap in between the two rollers so I dont have to keep moving it back and forth, right?

I use a safety chain and still put the strap under the bottom roller when trailering. Never can be too safe and it only takes a couple of seconds anyway.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
