You just hit the power button and a sonar “on/off” window pops up and I just turn it off. That way the unit is still on and the mapping is still keeping up to date, but the transducer isnt sending out a constant ping while sitting high and dry. I often turn it off on the 1198 on my console unit when Im on plain since the transducer isnt in the water anyway.
