I would appreciate a little help. Ive been a basscat owner for about 8 years and until now have had no problem with Fuel. I currently have a 2000 Cougar with a 225 Mercury EFI and have been reading some of the recent posts on the Owners Board about fuel and the problems with Ethanol and Alcohol additives. My problem lies in that in checking this past weekend at all major brand gas stations locally and off brand stations, all have approx. 10% ethanol or alcohol listed on their pumps. What chance do I have other than keeping tanks full and hoping for the best. Am I going to do major or even minor damage to my engine of the fuel delivery system? Any help will be appreciated. Mike

Actually we dont see much issue if you burn plenty through that EFI engine and they are thirsty devils. The fuel rate on a 225 EFI is high enough that detonation is not a major concern. Some ring and cylinder damage is a little worrisome, though not that much. BCB

As stated in previous posts, it is okay to run, it does not have to be a full tank. Use the Mercury Quickleen products as recommended. Add Sta-Bil fuel stabilizer for extended period of non use. I have been running a 96 EFI on these things, it is the best you can do, unless you can find a station that does not carry ethanol treated gas or you own an oil company. Can you run premium in that rig? If so I think that eliminates the e-10 from the equation-C.O.D. Jr. III

I could run premium but it operates fine on Regular and the labels on the pumps all say e-10 in all grades. Thanks, Mike
