i have a 97 mariner 200 efi. last november it started loading up while idling. would clean up as it came out of the hole but lost about 4/5 mph. ended up taking it in, to find a the diaphram in the fuel pump had gone bad. ran outstanding in fact ran faster (69 mph gps) than any time i have owned it.6 weeks later speed fell off to 64. then started running rich again. returned to the shop. got it back and still running rich / fowling plugs at low rpms. runs great when i can get it to clean up. just cant idle at 5mph w/o loading up. just returned it to the shop this morning. any suggestions?thanks

Trim the engine up while idling, so its exhasut exits easier. Also prop the engine out to push closer to 5800-6k rpms, this will kep the plugs from fouling so quickly. Burn premium, and run a good additive. I personally like Lucas fuel treatments.

i do keep the engine up till the last possible second due to the exhuast, like putting a patato in the exhaust. at wot i turn 5885 a couple, 4blade trophy plus 25p. compression is very good, reeds ok. had been burning mid grade since i got it 7yrs ago. run merc premium plus oil. never ever had this fowling problem till the fuel pump needed a rebuild. thanks for the reply

Im no expert but sea foam and ringfree are decarbonizers and may help as well.
