Fuel filling question

I have been experiencing issues when I fill up my 2007 PII and try to let the pump cut off to indicate it is full. The problem is I get gas spewing back outside the tank for at least 2-3 gurgles before it stops. I read on your FAQs where this should not be an issue on boats after 2006 BUT I seem to be having this issue. Mine is a 35th Anniversary edition and I dont know if something wasnt done properly or I am simply dealing with a unique issue. Any help would be appreciated. I just purchased the boat earlier this spring.Thanks

You can not leave the fuel nozzle alone and let it rip as it tops off, as there are no containments as in a vehicle. If the issue is only as it tops off, then you probably have no issues. If it is otherwise, then maybe we need to discuss it with you on the phone.

There is a little red insert that is supposed to stop this. I got the inserts and took out my seats and the plate so that I could install the insert. When I finally got everything out, I found that the inserts were already there. Mine still does it, and it is aggravating. It is bad enough when it gets on your clothes, but I am worried it is going to hurt the fiberglass.

Yep, I know what you mean. Unfortunately, after talking with a rep at Bass Cat it looks like this is something that wont go away. The tank just isnt designed to let the pump cut off on its on. I was instructed to lower the stream of fuel as I got closer to full and listen for the change when the section of hose from the cap to the tank begins to fill. I had already begun trying that but the last time I was at the gas station an ambulance was there filling up with diesel and did not shut of its engine while it fueled up. ie I couldnt hear a darn thing and was unable to react until it was too late. Too bad this design elimate couldnt have been better.

We find fuel tank filling is better on a BCB model than most all other brands we have tried. Though the amount of volume we are able to push also has some spit back in certain cases. Turning the hose angle one direction can help, though not eliminate it. The fuel will not harm you r fiberglass.

Had the same problem on older boat, I would wrap a wad of paper towels aroums knozzle to the overspill to a minimum- worked real well.BAYOU BANDIT

Some one suggested that when filling up to turn the nozzle up side down I tried this and it worked great. It has not done it one time since I started filling up this way.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will give them a try. I like the idea of inverting the nozzle it that will elimate the splashback problem and cause the pump to cutoff. I simply want to have as much fuel in the boat as possible without spilling any on it.

The turning over the nozzle head does work better on some pumps.
