Fuel gauge and switch question (Cougar)

Check wiring, since neither tank is reading i would suspect a ground issue.

You can ground the gauge out and see if it goes to full on an analog gauge, though not on Smart Craft or other smart gauges.

Then it is probably a sending unit. Switch tanks and see if the left tank moves when you ground that same tank. If not then the switch is working and just confirms our first thought. BCB

They Rochester sending units were more at fault with absorption of the float than the arm disconnecting. The float becomes laden, or the reostat coil in the head goes to ground and fails. Those were the main fault. The newer units are straight and are WEMA brand, which only some of the competition has followed with WEMA sending units. Many still use Rochesters at 1/3 the cost of WEMA.

Not to sound condescending in the least, but is the key switch on ? Master power on ? the reason i ask, the gauges wont read unless both power sources are activated. If neither is reading it should be a ground issue, if one wont work it most likely is a sending unit issue. Tighten all wiring leads, and also check the battery connections and the main terminal block located in the right rear of the bilge, on the firewall. Something is not grounded, or sending unit has failed, but not likely both would fail at the same time, imho.
