Ran new lines today and this is what I found, my boat is a 2007, sure did not think they would be this bad. Just wanted to thank the folks here that brought this up a saved me alot of headaches and missed fishing time. Funny story, went to the local triton dealer and ask for the A1 lines, He brings out a box of the same stuff I am replacing. I explain why and he says” Thats B.S. we have sold 6 boxes of this stuff this season. He goes on to tell me that he has not seen any fuel line degradation on a boat that was manufactured after 2005. I just smiled and said “No thanks, thats why I did not buy a Triton.” Thanks my B/C brothers!!
While this has not been common, after the thread came up we have done a bit of research on this and we have found that there are beginning to be plenty of lines show up with degradation. We did not think it was as common as we are finding it, though it is very common. Many of you will remember the post just over a year ago on this site where we stated that we expected to see a lot of issues due to fuel additives and ethanol. Well it is showing up in large numbers right now and we would replace the fuel lines with A1 lines. Here is a picture we found on “The Hull Truth” site on Ethanol Degradation.
So what fuel lines are on the 2010 models?britt
The lines on the boat are A1 lines from BCB to the tank switching valve. The lines from the valve to the engine are from the engine manufacturer in most cases, though some are A1 BCB lines in some applications. A quick look should get you to the numbers stamped on the hose. BCB has used A1 or A2 lines for decades, though obviously some engine companies have not been so concerned until recently. We we had an older Mercury engine, we would check the lines and replace those over 3 years of age that are not stamped BLUE> BCB
The new Mercury fuel lines are Gray with Blue writing on them and are supposed to be ethanol approved. I bought mine locally from a dealer here on Monday and installed the new line Today. I was shocked when I took my old line off and saw the effects of ethanol. I use stabilizer almost all of the time as well as the fact that I Pre mix my oil and gas becasue I got rid of the oil injection system once it started giving me trouble. My lines looked exactly like the lines in the above pictures. Granted, my lines were almost 10 years old! I will be doing this once a year just as a precaution. It is very inexpensive and will be added to my yearly maintenance that I do before our Toledo Bend trip. Even if the lines dont need changing, I will change them anyway. I dont even know how the motor was running at all. It had to be starving for fuel. I cant wait to go run it again to see If my recent loss in performance was strictly because of this rotton fuel line. Maybe Ill be back in the 80s again.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.
All mine on the 09 Sabre I have are bad,,trying to find the correct ones in my area but no luck so far, pisses me off the dealer closed down.
Onebgfish, If you dont have a dealer locally then just Call Bass Cat parts dept. and tell them what you need. They will take care of you and get you what you want. If my dealer didnt have them locally thats what I was going to do. Chris CoupelPaulina, La.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.
Ive been reading up some on E10 gasoline and fuel additives. Can you tell me if what I am interperting is correct?E10 gas has ethanol alcohol which is a solvent and cleaner that absorbs water. Some additives contain alcohol also so those should not be used. The alcohol is what damages your hoses. Water absorbed is mixed with the gas and can ruin an engine or injectors.Mercury “Quickleen Engine Treatment” does not contain alcohol but the Mercury “Quicksilver Fuel System Treatment & Stabiler” does contain alcohol. So it is ok to use the Quickleen Engine Treatment but the Quicksilver Fuel System Treatment & Stabiler should be avoided.Stabil Marine Fuel Stabilizer does not contain alcohol either so that would be ok also. That sound correct?
Crap, I need to check my 07 lines
I had replaced my fuel line a couple of years ago. It says “B2 – Alcohol Resistant”. Should I replace it with the A1 line?
