In the past years we have always taken a position that the fuel would not age significantly in the time we leave our boats sit. We felt that way up until recent years. In the past 18 months the quality of fuel is a major concern and we feel that it tends to gunk or varnish sooner. Also the ethanol added in gasoline has significantly altered the life of that fuel and the moisture content. While we have seen fuel get sequentially worse over the last ten years. in the last five and then two years we have seen larger incremental reductions in the shelf life from our experience. Years ago we could pull fuel out of a tank and while the octane rating would be off, the fuel would still have quality. More lately we really want to turn that fuel more often. If we have a boat sitting unused, even topped off, we are concerned about the age of that fuel. We think it is responsible for many fuel pump, hose and gaskets issues we are seeing at a steadily increasing number. And we do think it is worse this year than in years past. So if you are not using a tank on your boat, flip over there are run it out, rejuvenate a fresh supply and get rid of those old fuels! If your leaving it sit for more than a couple of months, put some additive in that tank. BCB
