I use my Cat year round but tend to go several weeks (usually no more than 4 weeks) between outings during the winter months. Should I put some fuel stabilizer in the tanks during these winter months? I have a Yamaha 250 and have gone as long as 6 weeks without running without any problems but wondering if I should add the stabilizer as a precaution. If so, what brand should I use?

I personally use Stabil for Marine use but Im understanding that the regular stabil just needs to be double dosed to do the same thing. I also use Seafoam in every tank. Ive started adding Marine Stabil to every tank of gas I use, even though I fish at least once a week most weeks. Plus I use Quikleen, but I dont think it has anything to do with stabilizing fuel. Marine Stabil is supposed to help to counteract the influence of ethanol fuels. (that being said, Ive never had any issues with ethanol in fuel, however I know some have). But to me, no more than the Stabil costs, why take any chances. After all those engines arent your grandpas 6 horse kicker anymore.

I use the marine sta-bil and mercury quickleen ever tank, the marine style treats more gallons than just the regular sta-bil. To get a good deal on mercury quickleen talked to Don Weed over on BBC in one of the mercury forums.

Its certainly not a bad idea to make a little Stabil Marine and Quick Kleen / Ring Free a part of your engines steady diet with the poor quality of todays fuel being what it is, ethanol and all!

My $.02— ring free works the best and is less expensive overall. Yamalube also has some ringfree in it as well-at least thats what Ive been told. If you have the ox66 then the ring free helps to keep your o2 sensors from going out.
