fuel tank question on new cat

Hey guys got a new puma ftd (2016) and had a question about the fuel tanks. My last boat was a 08 puma advantage and had the 2 10 gallon tanks in the back and the 30 under the seat and when you switched fuel tanks it would either draw from the center tank and then if you wanted to have it draw from the rear tanks it would draw from both rear tanks at the same time equally. I was told by the dealer that with the ftd model that it will only draw from one tank at a time (right or left) so you will have to switch them. I was just wondering what the reasoning for this is? Why couldnt they make it so it will draw from both rear tanks at the same time like my last boat acting like one big tank. This to me makes so much more sense not only for the convenience of not having to mess with switching tanks but also more balanced weight distribution. Im sure there is a reason for this im just wondering why. Thanks guys

I have thought the same as well. my tanks on my 09 still vapor lock and puke gas just like my old 95 ranger. really hacks me off but I could drill a hole in the rod locker. that would be sure to help.

My guess is its due to the new EPA pressurized tanks. To hard to put a tee between them and keep the govt happy!Your Signature …

New Puma has only 2 tanks – right and left. There is no tank under the seat, but rather 2 tanks with 26 gallon capacity each.

Not sure what gas is puking, or when filling, or venting? The reason the twin 25 tanks wont work together is the volume and they have an anti siphon valve. You could do this though with the volume of fuel you would in theory run excessively low and there would be no reserve, like your Puma had. The anti-siphon valve keeps it from seeking level like the older boats did. The pressure relief on the newer boats is 1 pound and fuel vents at 1 pound, plus the tanks are non permeable and the old tanks allowed permeation of vapors through the tank walls on plastic. That is probably what is smelling. There is a chance other things are leaking on the system, though often it is the permeation.

I am aware there is only the two 26 gallon tanks. So if the two anti siphon valves were removed would there be a way to get it to draw equally off both tanks or is it still not possible to get it to do that because of the volume of fuel in each tank.?

Ive never noticed a balance issue and Ive been running this boat for many years now.

Without the siphon valve you wold have limited challenges till the tanks were low. Then they dont quite draw the same and remaining volumes are different on the tanks.

im working on my sarcasm though not as often as my wife would like. my 09 puma, with the fuel handle on its slowest fill option, still pukes gas out onto the boat b4 it kicks the handle off. ive tried different stations and different pumps w/ no difference. I hate having to stand by the boat and hold the handle to eeek out a little fuel at a time so it doesnt erupt over me or the back of the boat. im open for suggestions unless I have to drill somethingI aint drillin nuttin
