zero ethanol is better. But hard to find and usually overly expensive if you buy it at marina pumps. 87 is the right answer UNLESS your owners manual says otherwise (such as running a 300xs, etc). Higher octane burns cooler and that leads to more carbon. I also researched this topic since making the move from a 4 stroke to Pro XS. Finding 87 non-ethanol gas is impossible where Im located and as previously stated the premium burns slower and causes carbon build up. Im using 87 octane with ethanol and adding Mercury Quickleen and Quickare at every fill.

As said – non ethanol is best, but not always available. Best bet is going with “top tier” fuel from the highest volume station you can find. The issue with ethanol is water absorption. High volume stations have newer fresher fuel that probably hasnt absorbed any. Top tier assures you of the best detergent and additive package. “Dons Cocktail” from BBC is good insurance, just in case.

I have a 2017 Merc Pro XS and my dealer told me to use the “medium” octane fuel and always include an additive. The gas is a little more expensive but holy cow the additives are really expensive!2017 Eyra / 250 Merc Pro XS

I burn 87 Octane in my ProXs. Never have used non ethanol fuel, just cant find it in my area. I always use Marine Stabil and Quickleen with every fill up.

Same here a Billius. Quickleen EVERY time I add gas. Im using Marine Stabil now (and also add to all home power equipment such as mowers, weedwhackers, snowblower etc.) but have also used Mercs Quickcare. Ive used Startron also in years past and still add some on occasion. Note you can get Quickleen in quart size now which is cheaper then the 12oz bottles. Save a 12 oz bottle to pour into though as its easier to keep in boat.

I use 100% non ethanol.The station just down from my house has it, sure its a little more expensive 20 to 30 cents higher per gallon, but still better than the mechanics hourly rates. I also use quickleen. Pulled the plugs at about 40hrs and they were nice and clean and the tops of the pistons were looking good as well. In the day I swore by seafoam. But with current times I have gone to using what the manufacturers sale and recommend. To many manufacturers looking for ways to void warranties and get out of their responsibilities. How can you go wrong if you are using their products designed for their equipment.

I run quickleen, quickcare at everytrip to the pump. If i think boat is going to sit for more than 14 days ill add either quickstor or blue stabil. After reading over on bbc i have recently been running 150:1 premium plus mixture to the gas as well for lubrication to the injectors every other trip to the pump. To me its all about the injectors anyway. Fortunately I have non-ethanol available locally. No need to burn anything other than 87 octane
