I am starting to open up the new motor for short periods. Im not having much luck getting the boat over 70-72 mph. Sure its a driving lesseon once you can get over 68 routinely in one of these Cougars but even when I get a nice line and push it so it doesnt chine walk. I bought a used 26P Fury (perfect condition) to run on the new 250 Pro XS and I only got one vent plug in the prop. I never thought anything of it, because that always worked best for me with my Tempest Props ont he old motors. Is it possible the extra exhaust gas is having an affect at high RPMs? I was always told it didnt, but venturi affect has got to draw some exhaust gas out through the vents. At 5400 RPM I am running 68+ MPH solid on the GPS, but spinning up to 5700-5800 RPM only nets 70-71. That just doesnt sound right to me. Like I am getting excessive prop slip at higher RPMs or something. I can jerk some plugs out of my old props to try and see what happens, but I thought I would get an opinion from some here too. Mostly I am running at 3.5, but I have marks at 3 and 2 on my jack that I have experimented with also. I can live with it if I have to though. 68 at 5400 is a nice speed for covering water. Sounds like you may be a little high, though we are not sure. And you should not need vent plugs in a Fury.
Bob, I have a 2008 Cougar FTD dual console, Pro XS 250 and 26p Fury. I am 64″ 260. With both tanks 3/4 full and all fishing gear my BEST speed in optimum conditions has been 78.6mph GPS. That was at 5860-5880 rpms. I have the 8″ manual jackplate and mt engine is lower than most guys I see. My inside plate is about 1/2 inch below flush on the jackplate. The boat handles great. I am confident that all boats will set up differently. Most otherCougars I have seen are running flush on the inside jackplate of not 1/2 inch above. Just wanted to give you my feedback on my setup. I am sure it will vary from boat to boat and prop to prop based upon how much “stuff” you carry in your boat and how it is distributed. That boat is DEFINITELY capable of more than you are getting right now. Be patient and play with the setup. Youll get there. It took me almost 3-4 months before I had it where I was comfortable. I could get MORE out with some adjustments but top end speed is not as critical as performance and stability for my driving style. Good luck as you work with it. Also…no plugs in the Fury.Jmtfrisco, Texas

Prop shaft is at 3.5 below pad. That is where I have liked the performance the best so far. You are saying I should run deeper?–Bob La Londe Forums, Free Lures, Product Reviewswww.YumaBassMan.com CNC Molds N Stuffwww.CNCMOLDS.com
Fury propellers do not come with PVS plugs. They are totally open in NIB condition. You should not need any PVS plugs in your rig. BCB
Ok, Ill pop that plug out before I hit the river again. Ill also try some deeper motor settings.–Bob La Londe Forums, Free Lures, Product Reviewswww.YumaBassMan.com CNC Molds N Stuffwww.CNCMOLDS.com
P.S. My aftermarket potentiometer for my jack plate control is working just fine.–Bob La Londe Forums, Free Lures, Product Reviewswww.YumaBassMan.com CNC Molds N Stuffwww.CNCMOLDS.com

Also, do you have a dual blinker trim setup in your rig? Just the three control wires to the pot. Nope, no blinker switch for the jack. Sometimes I wish I had one. I just looked up the pot, and when the MFG told me that it was special order and there was a $400 minimum I looked up an alternative and just did a direct replacement. One of the shops who had my boat had broken the old pot. It spun past it stops.–Bob La Londe Forums, Free Lures, Product Reviewswww.YumaBassMan.com CNC Molds N Stuffwww.CNCMOLDS.com
Bob, that sure is a huge rooster tail on the photo of your boat (jet boat like). Motor has to be too high. My 09 Puma 225 Pro XS (26 Fury no plugs) 75.5 mph @ 5700 rpms, livewells empty, 10 gallons of gas, two people (me @ 215 and buddy @ 240), 20 rods and about 150 pounds of tackle/gear… under calm conditions. Standard manual jackplate…prop shaft set 3 5/8 below pad.
