Gas smell help

Well,think I found the smell. I was expecting a fitting to be seeping but not this. Any ideas to narrow down the problem. Im thinking about changing all gaskets. Any ideas? 2014 p2.

Looks like more than a gasket leak to me. Gas usually leaves behind a brownish red stain. Id start by cleaning the tops of those tanks to try and determine what was going on. Otherwise Id drag to a dealer and let them get it fixed. Good luck with your issue.

I know there is an o ring in the demand valve. Im thinking its around that valve or around the fill hose. I think the crud is built up from repeated fuel seeping. Was just hoping someone was familiar with this issue. I sprayed soap around the connections, sender etc and dont see any obvious leak. Tank is holding pressure, when I open the fill cap I can hear a rush of air. Maybe BCB can guide me here. I know there were some tank issues around the time. Ill let them see the pictures and advise before I start cleanup.

We would verify it’s not leaking around the demand valve on the pickup. Give that area a once over and If it’s just smell, then it might be a connection. The area is not unlike some we’ve seen that are holding water on top under the seat area. Especially if they are stored outdoors. Since your in this deep we would consider removing the tank if there is fuel in the bilge. There not a doubt you want to exhaust ever angle and find the fuel if there are strong vapors. If there is no residual fuel in the sump, it’s not the tank we don’t believe. This also should be a non pemable tank with liner. If so then it’s not fuel permeating through the plastic liner.

Is the O-Ring on the demand valve something that should be changed? I never saw any fuel in the bilge. Just a strong gas smell in the boat and lockers. I think I will clean it up and fill the tank and drive around a little and see if I see anything.

We don’t think you will as the bilge would reveal it all. There is a kit for the pickup setting that Service can get for you to seal the tank. They are tracking those kits uses, thus they will require a serial number. You can verify permeation after the kit. Also check fuel tank clamps to be sure you have a double clamp on the fill neck.
