Gas Smell in Rod Box

Since this is a fairl new boat we think the dealer should have a loo see at this one. The fuel in the port rod box indicates that there could be a small leak in the fuel connections. Though since the upper deck is all the same cavity, you should have that smell in the other rod box and the rear as well. Though it may be localized and only permeation. The fuel tanks are plastic and can allow permeation at a low parts per million level. The permeation is common in plastic fuel tanks, though the smell is not overly common in BCB models. Thus we think yours deserves a good look see. Also check the bilge area for hints of trace fuel in the bilge, or on top of water there. BCB

The fuel smell is a major complaint for most all other bass boat owners, though we have not had this complaint on the majority of BCB product. The 2008 is the same system and we try hard to not have the smell issue. We know others have it and we dual vented the tank and more to alleviate this.

Quick question – I took the cap off the Perko vent thats on the top cap of the transom on my 08 Puma. It has a little orange plug in it. Is that supposed to be there? It seems that the vent would be restricted and Im wondering if that is whats causing the fuel smell to permeate into the rod lockers. Let me know what yall think.

So I should take out the little orange plug?

I had the same gas smell in my Jaguar. I solved it by proping open the rear compartment lids with wood blocks when Im not using my boat. I posted a similar question to BCB about the gas smell more than a year ago…….and it seems like someone responded that there is some very small degree of permibility thru the plastic gas tanks that can cause the odor. If I go all week and dont prop my lids, my compartments smell of gas. If I prop my lids, no problem.
