You would lose RPM on top or have a miss at lower speeds.
My 07 Opti runs fine on straight 87 regular with 10% ethanol. I use Quickleen 100% of the time and also Starbrite fuel treatment. When storing for the winter I fill with Premium however because it is going to sit for 4-5 months and dealer adds Mercs additive for storage. In 3rd year without a fuel problem.
Call local delivery source. They will tell you EXACTLY what they deliver where. Two issues are octane rating of what is mixed with this crap and amount of alcohol per gallon. If the relative percent of ehtacrap is lower in supreme Id shell out the cash because as you know it aint 87 octane behind this farce made from corn in regular gradesFuel treatments do nothing for the alcohol. They only attempt to prevent water attraction. The actual presence of alcohol is the biggest issue. Its strips that pretty shiny covering off all plastic called plasticizer. Hell water may help that!Last edited by clownshoes on September 17th, 2012, 12:35 am, edited 3 times in total.C.O.D. Jr. III
Use what Mercury suggests. I believe they suggest 87 minimum octane. Higher octane fuel burns slower and can lead to cylinder detonation.
Around here fuel is 87, 89, and 93 octanes. You would actually get a little higher octane by mixing the regular with the premium. It would be 90 octane rather than 89.
The question is though what percentage of the gas is ethanol. If supreme is 6% and regular is 10% id buy ALL supreme.C.O.D. Jr. III

My manual says: Recommended Fuel 87 octane/up to 10% ethanol, so like Ward says, the $$ question is what is the percentage of ethanol?
You get a bad batch of regular without the ethanol to boost octane it wont be anywhere near 87.Call your distribution source and they will tell you exactly what they deliver and where it is.Id rather run 91 with 2% ethanol to get you to 93 lets say than 84 with 10% ethanol to get you to 87.The guys that work on mine say ethanol is more determental than 93 octane in regular gas. I assume? most marine engineers would concur?C.O.D. Jr. III
87,87,87!!! If you have an opti it is 87 octane. Ethanol actually raises octane and the opti per Don at Euro marine says 87 w/Ethanol is better than premium without it.Last edited by sabreski on September 17th, 2012, 9:12 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Thanks to “Ike” we went up 31 cents in 1 hour today, guess they said the pipeline was going to be shut down. Heard a runor Little Rock was way up there too.
Indiana AAA saying $4.30 by April once the summer blends kick in. Closest decent lake for fishing is 3/4s tank in the truck. Going to cost me a Ben Franklin everytime I want to go fishing.
The gas tax in N.C. is based on the price of gas during a quarter. If the price of gas goes up and stays up then the tax rate will be higher for that next quarter even if the actual cost of gas drops. They have talked about holding the tax rate when prices go extremly high but that has never been the case. The fine people in our state capital said that we need the extra money for the roads. If the price of gas keeps going up there are going to be fewer people on the roads. We already have the 6th highest gas tax in the nation.
151% of the 47% voted to keep things “moving forward”,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,did they really think there were gonna be all that free stuff without someone paying for it ?
I wouldnt worry too much about fuel getting into the mid $4 range. Of course it surely “could” do that, but they have been saying that everytime fuel starts to go up and its not done it yet, at least in my part of the country.
