I just had my hull touched up for the second year in a row. Im getting blisters under the boat where the trailer moisture stays against the boat for long periods. Does BCB recommend any way or product to guard against costly future repairs? I am aware that gel coat issues are not under warranty. Thank you.

buch1565, Whomever informed you of osmosis was apparently somewhat knowledgeable of gel coats and the issues. Which is why no one warrantys the gel coat from this situation. They are sporadic and can develop at random, the only prevention we know of is bottom painting, and Bertram Yachts probably spent more on this topic than any company. We understand the predicament and are sympathetic to the situation depending on the age of the product. Though you are accurate in your statement. The only other option is to jack up the hull and dry in occasionally from the bunks to prevent this. Once a repair is done there, then it seldom reoccurs as the surface is broken and the osmosis is no longer occurring (gassing). It is more common after we had to end use of the VE resins, and less common on recent years of production with the newer VE barrier coat. Man we wish we could go back to a full VE resin. Thanks to the EPA for that little change.BCB

Thanks BCB. I understand the situation well, and understand why the warr. does not apply as this is a problem in the resin, and not a BCB quality control issue. I have a floor jack. Should I place 2X4s under the pad and start jacking? I want to make sure I dont do any harm to the pad. I could do this each time I put the boat away. Ive also consider spraying a moisture resistant coating on the bunk carpet. Shes not that old yet (2006) but when she is, I want her to still look new. I plan to re-power the boat several years down the road with a 175-200 4 stroke, and turn her over to the little guy in the pic when he is mature enough to act responsibly. Do the blisters feel like dimples on a golf ball or bubble wrap? If so then I have them on my boat.

It will be a bumpy texture probably larger than bubble wrap blisters though. From my experience.
