Gel coat help

So I tried to perform my gel coat repair today. Taped off the area, sanded around the chip, cleaned it up, and them got ready to mix the gel coat. Opened the can of black gel coat that BassCat sold me, and the gel coat is almost like dried rubber or caulk. Is this right? I thought it would be a little runny. This stuff is crumbly and mostly solid. I have never worked with gel coat, so I am not sure if it is the correct consistency or not. Any advice?

Its pretty thick and not like paint. It should pour like a molasses consistency, only a bit thicker. Also there is a limited shelf life and if you received it a few months back it may have dried. We store long term colors we are saving in the fridge. Though even that has a limited shelf life.Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on April 23rd, 2012, 12:41 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Crumbly and mostly solid? Does not sound like any gel coat ive ever seen.
