Everyone thinks stainless is a hard metal. Stainless is actually soft. There are different grades and some that can be harden though the process is somewat elaborate and very expensive. Stainless has some awesome properties. I purchased the marinetown latches and have found that they do “scuff” a little but maintain a shine. Another thing that contributes to the scuff is sandy dirty enviroments. Though just as certian stainless materials scratch easily they also will buff to a lustrous shine fairly easy
