Actually been planning on buying a Bass Pro 100+ bibs and Parka, and then seen the Gill stuff at the Classic Expo and it looks like quality gear, so now Im looking hard at the BC store at the Gill gear. What do you guys wear for the rain and cold?
Ive been in the same spot. I was looking at the BCB store but now Im looking online at Stormr gear also. Its a chunk of change but its something that you want to perform as advertised when its cold and/or wet out.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
Cant beat Cabelas Guidewear. Pricey but if you check the bargain cave in late spring you can get a really good deal. I am a big dude 2XL or 3XL so I had to mix and match the colors of the bibs and parka but well worth it.BassCatSC
I bought the Cabelas set late last fall so I havent had a chance to try it out yet. Bought based on many recommendations here in past posts on the topic. Was looking at BPS 100 mph but there were a few reviews here that quality had gone down hill a bit the past couple years. Note you can get Guidewear at a good price sometimes. I got mine at $199 each piece. Normal price is $299 each. Sign up for their email and you will get their electronic and paper flyers on periodically.
I have had the same set of cabelas guide wear since 1996 and still going strong, I just reapplied the outer fabric repellent, and shedding water like brand new
Bought my Cabelas Extreme Guidewear on sale as well for $199 each…bibs and parka. Used once last spring at the OI. Get to use them again this weekend96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
Ive owned same set of guidewear for years but its not really ideal to keep you fishing.Wayyyy too physcially heavy of a jacket for cranking in cold rain- plus the bib overall straps get old – would be nice to have drawstring backup when you didnt need overall straps.Bibs are great but ideal suit to me would be much lighter.Imagine anyones new design will be better.C.O.D. COLUMBIA PFG HAS OMNI HEAT AND IN WASHINGTON STATE ITS COLD AND RAINS AND DONT FEEL EITHER WHEN WEARING IT THERE ARE PRICEY BUT WORTH IT.
I have a set of Cabelas Guidewear bibs, but I really like my Under Armor jacket.Dan
Is the Gill suit the most comfortable one you have put on? Dont fight your clothes when the weather is already making you miserable. If so, Gill makes quality stuff. Dont worry about not being Gore Tex. All of the major manufactures offer fabrics comparable to the “run of the mill” gore tex as far as waterproof and breath ability go in the $2-300 range. Above that price you only get small gains in durability, weight and fit. Make sure you like how the cuffs adjust, the hood closes (one piece attached to jacket or removable) and also how the drawstrings on the hood work. Try it with a hat and sunglasses and cinch it down like you were getting ready to make a run. A jacket without a hood that works at 70 is useless in a bass boat. Ward raised a good point. The 100mph and the original style guide wear can be warm and heavy suits, even without linings installed. I assume the Coast suit is similar to these. BassCat please correct if I am wrong! Most of the year I wear a very lightweight gore tex shell suit that is probably similar in weight to the Inshore Lite model BassCat is carrying now. Its way more comfortable than my guidewear unless it is torrential downpour or near freezing. There are tonnes of good suits out there right now. Simms, Stormr, Gill, Under Armour, frabil etc. being marketed directly to fishermen. Then if you branch out into the outdoor arena Arcteryx, Mountain Hardwear, Marmot, North Face, Columbia etc all have great stuff (winter snow sport shells if you want warm, summer packable hiking stuff for light weight). You can also find nice end of season clearance deals this way too.
