Going for tourney big bass

So far this year with the new Eyra I have a 1st, 2nd, and 9th in tourneys so its been fun. Catching and finding bass usually isnt an issue its catching big bass of the tourney. Ive been fishing tourneys for a few years now and have won big bass only once. I know its mostly just a crap shoot or just plain luck most of the time but what do you guys do to up your chances? Is it using bigger lures, is it a mental thing,or should I just not think about it and hope it will happen?

Drowning a jig or topwater usually brings the bigger bites for me, but the A-Rig brings the most big fish in clearer water.

Ill start out early throwing big bass type lures Like big jigs, chatterbaits, spinners, buzzbaits, depending on conditions. Then I switch to catching a limit after the sun hits the water. If I get a decent limit early Ill throw the big bass type lures for the majority of the rest of the day. And just stick with it. Thinking the whole time….just one good bite.My last two tournaments I won and also got big bass early – one on a chatterbait and one on a spinner. Ive really just started throwing the chatter this year and loving it so far.

I think fishing slower helps but if you are catching a lot of fish your prob in the wrong spot seems like you catch the big ones in more solitary schools but im no expert

Go fishing more. I am hardly any kind of stick but really this is what it comes down to.Gotta find them more than you have to change lures.C.O.D. Jr. III

I agree with Ward. I have caught big ones on small Bagley B-1s, jerkbaits, senkos as well as big cranks and jigs. Just got to find em and foolem. I seem to catch more big ones in Jan and Feb on jerkbaits.golfen

Not sure. Its been too muddy here at home to throw it. I hear they are catching them on it at Pickwick. Personally I think if the fish arent on the bank itll be effective.

Check out swimbaitnation.com swimbaits are more than just a Cali thing. I am determined to figure them out this year and have had followers and slaps, but no hook ups so far.

Arig is just as good post spawn as pre.Look at Beaver Lake FLW data. Dudley closed out with a shakey but something else got them all there.I had a Mr Bass of Arkansas event 2 weeks ago that I gave my co angler my a-rig and didnt even fish the last hour trying to get him a limit too.Oh yeah. It works.And well.And the clear lake thing is a complete myth.C.O.D. Jr. III
