Got my new Sunbrella Supreme cover in today for my 2005 Puma! Finally had to replace my Deans cover that started ripping out. Went with their new strapless design to avoid the abrasions the straps on the Deans cover would cause if you towed the boat with the cover on. Cant wait to see how it looks.Well, tried it out but, seems it doesnt fit. Id say its a foot short over the dual consoles and if you get the back edge to hook over on the drivers side, the passenger side is a foot short of making its corner and that side has a boarding ladder too. I also noticed several long threads hanging off of the stitching, not sure what would happen if I pulled on those. As a general note about the strapless Sunbrella cover, it has two exposed cam buckles on the outside end of the cover. I think these may pose some issue as your trying to cover the boat as they could easily scratch or take a chunk out of the fiberglass as you roll out the cover. Traditionally I just unroll the covers with long sweeping motions throwing it over the boat… But that could be dangerous with the exposed cam buckles. Even going slowly to unroll the cover you pretty much have to hold onto the cam buckles the entire time, not sure how convenient that will be as I try to put it on without help (previous cover had one buckle mechanism, but folded inside the tarp in a velcro pocket). The material itself seems nice and is lighter than my Deans cover. Ill give them a call tomorrow and see what we can work out.Last edited by dlivings4433 on September 26th, 2012, 2:57 am, edited 3 times in total.
We will be in touch with Aurora on the cover issue. The buckles do need protecting and preventing them from contacting the flake. We would roll the cover to the center in one long strip running the length of the deck, then roll it from rear to front rolling the buckles inside the roll. The buckles go into the cover folded to the center to prevent contacting the finish. Not sure why yours doesnt fit, though we assure you it will unless it is something preventing the fit we are not aware of. BCB.
I took the rear seat out and tried it that way too, Im not sure if its supposed to fit with the rear seat in or not. I spoke with Arora covers today and will be sending them the pics also so they can address the issues. They think it may not fit due to my boat having the squared windshields vs the more rounded ones. I did play with the cam buckles a little more with rolling and unrolling the cover. It seems that once your past the windshields as your putting the cover on, you really have to watch for the buckles, especially if you leave the rear seat in and try to lift and toss the cover over it. You need to pull that cover tight. It will stretch some. I think these new style cover are suppose to fit tight.
Yeah I figured it should be tight, but its not even close to reaching. I pulled hard and was afraid of busting a windshield and it was still way short of making the corner or the other side of the boat below the rub rail…. not to mention the boarding ladder. Taking the photos there was no practical way to pull it tight without having 3 or 4 guys to hold each edge (2 in back and 2 on each side) as you pull it as it doesnt hook on anything except barely on the drivers side corner. Kind of felt like some comedy joke as I pulled one side the other came off. My thought is even if the cover fits tight, it should still at least reach the rub rail without to much effort, and then cam buckles pulls it snug under the railing which is what prevents it from coming off. You can see the one side makes it, but not the other. I actually had a friend come out today who makes these to make sure I wasnt doing anything wrong. FYI he said the pricing on the cover was very good.Last edited by dlivings4433 on September 26th, 2012, 2:34 am, edited 1 time in total.
Its defiantly not going to fit with the seats in.
Didnt really make as much difference as you might think with the seat in or out. With my previous cover you could leave both seats in. Heres another view with the seat out. Even with the seat out the drivers side corner will barely hook, but the rest of the cover doesnt pull down over the rub rail as it approaches the motor, and none of the cover reaches on the passenger side. Im sure they will get it right with some time, maybe I need to take a road trip back to my home state so they can measure it….. (aka fishing trip)? Ill be sure to repost some pics when we get it all worked out. Last edited by dlivings4433 on September 26th, 2012, 2:56 am, edited 2 times in total.
Arent the older consoles taller, especially w/ the windshield? So they may be right about the consoles being the issue if the cover was designed based on the new consoles. Or maybe they accidentally sent you one for a PIV and not the Puma. Either way, BCB will fix you up.
We understand the the customer and Aurora are in conversation regarding this cover fit. We doubt they were able to fit the ladder as shown in this application. BCB
Got the redone Sunbrella cover but its still not quite fitting. Its just a few inches short in the middle section. Im wondering if anyone using this style of cover has had it out in a heavy rain? Granted mine doesnt fit exactly when I played with it, but Im wondering when it rains if there has been any issue with pooling of water in the front or aft sections. My old cover with the tie downs would still pool if it didnt have the butt seat in the forward hole, if the seat was in the middle, water would pool in the forward area on the drivers side. Ive emailed Aurora about the fit, but Im thinking this style of cover may not be the best option for me, storing the boat outside and having to hold up to hurricane force winds at times here in Florida. I guess Im wondering at this time if Im not better off having someone local make me a custom cover, as Ive already spent about 4 months getting this cover and my other one is falling apart. I like the designs Aurora has on their website, however Im concerned now that I may not get quite the right fit with a regular style cover too……..
