I cant figure out why my front GPS keeps on cutting off when I start my boat . I put a brand new 1000cca battery in last week and it didnt help. Where can I seperate my front GPS and put it on a trolling motor battery or what else can I do ?????
Try seeing the voltage window in the electronics and determine if there is a solid source there when no onther drain is on this point. Also it could be a connection with a wire worn or torn, depending on only one or two strands of wire. BCB
I had the same issue and wired unit directly to cranking battery which fixed the problem. There is a voltage drop when starting engine which causes the unit to turn off.
The unit is a lowrance x27c w/external antena mounted on the bow , my x28 on the console is fine. I realize with the unit being that far up there is a voltage drop but a brand new battery should take care of that. Where does the unit get power from ? I see the power cable under bow but have know idea how to get to it.
I would think it is wired into to your bow accessory panel, take that panel off and check all the connections on the rocker switches. If all else fails just run two wires from the battery direct to the unit, to eliminate any guessing.
Im having the same issue with my 1197 right now (that I have not had in the past). It is wired directly to my crank battery and again, I have not had this issue in the past. I put the multimeter to the cranking battery just after unplugging the charger. It read 12.36 volts which is something like 70% battery life left. Im going to test again at 6 hours unplugged and then again at 24 hours unplugged to see the rest of the damage. Looking at going to Odyssey batteries after all of the amazing things I have read about them. It seems the Optimas are hit and miss now which is too bad. I use to have Optimas in my muscle cars and they were great.
sgt93, on direct connection like that, we would question other issues. You should not be experiencing the issue. We would think they would out a small power support in these units to prevent this as common as it is becoming. BCB
I tested the battery again a few ago and it is around 60% 5 hours off of the charger so the battery may be a valid point. I actually bought the Sears Platinum Marine PM1 (which is the Odyssey 2150) with an online special of $25 extra off a few minutes ago. I will pick her up and install on Thursday but will probably not get back on the lake until next week.
I will check into it a bit further but from the battery end, everything looked good when I installed the Platinum PM1 that about broke my back at 75lbs lol.
