Im looking to reduce the interference from the trolling motor to my sonar. Ive read where you can ground the trolling motor…”To ground the motor case externally, drill a small diameter (1/8″) hole in the motor skeg. Attach one end of the ground wire at this point by using a self tapping stainless still screw and run 18 gauge wire up the motor shaft along with the transducer cable. Connect the other end of the ground wire to the motors negative battery lead or post” Can I hook the ground wire from the skeg to the negative connection inside the trolling motor plug (where it plugs in at the front of the boat) instead of running it all the way back to the batteries? I would like to try it first and see how muchit would help before routing a line to the back (pain) but want to make sure that would harm the trolling motor any…I would think its just a ground but it would be straight to the skeg. Ive learned to never try and figure out electricity.Last edited by 1958 on July 23rd, 2011, 9:14 pm, edited 1 time in total.
