Well guys the lake is starting to fish better. Weights where up today in the ChooChoo BFL. Water temps fell a little this week after latest cold snap. Top 6 weights 20lbs. 23iah won. Strong winds probably hampered some folks from sacking them up. The theme for the day seemed to be Traps 2-6ft, and chatterbaits. Warming trend will send them screaming to the shallows this week. I caught a bed fish last week and saw several empty beds with Fry. best areas seem to be pockets and creeks although a few guys still claim to be catching them on river. I have concentrated strictly on Eel grass the last 2 weeks Which is where all my fish came from today Caught them all on a Driftwood Baits chatterbait. The milfoil is coming on strong and is nice and green. Make sure if you tournament Fishs you sign up for Quest , its a strong program with my 5th place finish today I will earn some “Kitty Cash” Visit bassinbigg.com for tournament results and upcoming events. Cant wait for all the Cats to take over big GWater temps 50-55 this week.Water clarity 1.5ftLast edited by choochoo on March 19th, 2017, 1:39 am, edited 1 time in total.
glad its picking back up some. We went a few weeks ago and it was horrible. Even the guide camping next to us took out a client and they only caught 1 bass and 1 crappie.13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods
Then you were the highest finishing Bass Cat angler. Congrats on the Quest qualification. Be sure to file everything within 30 days.
My son and I are planning on going up Monday, since the temps are back into the 70s by then. Hopefully no gales blowing either.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
Boy did it blow yesterday. I was in a protected pocket most of the time so it didnt bother me. That is on point I need to make for those fishing OI. This lake isnt like Rayburn or Toledo bend it generally doesnt get so ruff its dangerous. Usually the Scenic mountains block allot of it. (That is one thing you guys will love the views are awesome on this lake) Ton of bald eagles and osprey. But back to the wind trouble spots as far as uncomfortable rides will be around Sebold and the State park and then big bridge around browns creek. That was the roughest I have seen it in a long time yesterday there where easy 3″ and some 4″ at browns creek. Left weigh in with 2 Procrafts got to ramp We launched at They both looked at me and said how are you so dry. I replied “Meow”
Weights continue to rise took 24lbs to win the ABA team trail. I believe there where 6 bags over 20. Water temps have gone up and the fish are on the move. Main river around 60 most creeks and pockets low-mid 60s. Theme for this weekends tournament seemed to be traps, square bills, and chatter baits. we had 21.39 and finished 5th. Our catch this week came on Driftwood Baits chatterbaits again. Unfortunately the ABA team is not covered under quest so no “Kitty Cash” for our 5th place finish. I really think there will be allot of shallow fish come the OI. I believe most will be spawned out but since the grass is growing so well they will stick around. Water clarity still pretty good with the exception of the wind blown areas with red clay banks they are pretty stained. Well the classic is behind us now so the count down should start up.On a side note allot of the guides have apparently been taken for there services in this tournament to fish it with out of town anglers. (I have never understood how you get personal gratification by getting a hired hand, instead of putting in the work.) That being said dont let this discourage anyone from coming out of town. I want to win this more then anyone coming to this event, it will be my 4th. I would bet my boat that it will be won by a out of state angler that puts in the work uses his knowledge to find something a little different. Good fishing, look forward to everyone coming to GVILLE.

The way I read quest, only 5 Trails qualify for the highest finisher in the Top 20. The ABA is quest sanctioned but it looks to me only for wins. T. Tournaments under automatic Quest sanction as of this printing in 2017 are:• Bass Champs• Texas Team Trails• Arkansas Bass Team Trail • BFL (Bass Fishing League) • ABT (Alabama Bass Trails)
thanks for the reports. I agree, an out of stater will probably win it because they will approach the lake differently than those who have fished it in the past. Im just excited to see all the cats, fish a lake I like, and have a good time. If we get lucky enough to win something (anything) or find a little ducky Ill be on cloud 9
I dont think it is against any rules but if folks are hiring guides to fish the tourney days with them that takes away from the spirit of the annual family gathering.
