Pissed off and to add insult to injury, the bite was not worth a darn either. So with that being said, I was running down the lake and my boat just died. It was like I had turned the key off. It cranked right back up, but spit and sputtered as it took for ever to get on pad. I made it about 100 yards after that and it started surging BIG time. Like I was running out of fuel. Then it would not run at all after trying to nurse it to the bank. Wind blowing hard was not helping. Then like to have never got someone to stop and help me. I have both tanks completely full of fuel. When I finally got to the ramp, it cranked up and idled just fine. No hesitation at all. SO I was confused to what had happen. Thinking maybe I got trash in the line, I floored it. It got on pad and then within seconds, it started dragging again. Then my alarm started going off when i got to idle. It was idling just fine, but when I would give it any fuel, it would start surging like out of fuel. SO if there is anyone out there that can assist me in trouble shooting now that I am back to the house, it would be greatly appreciated.
If it is a Merc the beep could be the water in fuel signal. On the passenger side of the motor there is a fuel filter, it looks just like a small oilfilter. Take the wire off the sensor on the bottom and unscrew the filter. Get you something clean to empty the fuel into and see if you haveany water. If you do then you know that at least the tank you are running on is contaminanted. When the sensor detect water it puts themotor in Guardian mode which pretty much is only a idle. Good Luck Johnny
I forgot to mention that my motor is a Honda to those that has to seen my pics.
This sounds very similar to a problem another poster was having not too long ago. I think it was pretty much general concensus that it was a fuel flow problem. If memory serves me it could be ethanol messing up the fuel lines, the fuel bulb itself collapsing, or a pick up in the fuel tank. Somebody else should be along to help more. The last and only time this happened and acted the same way was when my fuel pump went out on my Merc 200EFI. Hope its something cheaper! i had a very simular problem with my hpdi. turned out to be very dirty filters combined with bad low pressure fuel pumps. i changed them all out and added a 10 micron fuel filter before the motor and never had a problem againhope this helps Chris
Sounds like a fuel issue. I would isolate the boats fuel system by using a remote fuel tank( a little carry-on one) . If problem doesnt appear then there is blockage in your fuel system. deteriorated fuel line, primer bulb delaminated and collapsing inside blocking flow, debris in tank clogging fuel pickup. filters clogged etc. If problem still occurs it would be from the fuel connection forward ie motorBob
DO NOT USE FUEL WITH ETHANOL we found this out the hard way…it gummed up the fuel lines and caused the inner lining to wear off and it blocked the fuel line at the time I was running at WOT and the motor kind of surged like it had fuel loss so I slowed down and it seemed like everything was fine so I gunned it and next thing I know my motor quits so I go to restart it and a clanking sound started turns out I blew the motor so make sure the fuel line isnt plugged up….
basscat35, as much time as you spend on this board we, and others, have expressed the immediate need to replace the grey lines on the engine and from fuel tanks. The inner linings breaks down and as you experienced restricts fuel flow while the timing is advanced and leans the engine out burning a piston. This also sounds like a fuel issue on your Honda.
Yes siree lol just tryin to help!! Haha
