I have blown 3 spare tires in the past year while putting my boat in the water. if the ramp is somewhat steep the boat falls off the bow roller and lands on the tire and “BOOM” the tire splits! i have a 2004 cougar, tand axle trailer what gives!!!!!!!! Anybody else have these issues? how do i not blow my spare tire when using a steep ramp?

Steeper ramps require less trailer in the water. The nose must be removed from the trailer by power or you can back it in faster and flaot the boat in reverse. Where are you located at? We reside in the area of mountain reservoirs like Greers Ferry, Bull Shoals, Table Rock and Norfork. Those are steeper ramps than most areas, and we are very familiar with steep ramp issues. The worst ramps are those which have a flat top, and a steep ramp. The truck alters the angles of these two items and the flat vehicle lifts the trailers.

I use the seconf option from above. If it is a steep ramp back it in deep and pretty quick to get the trailer out of the way.

I just removed my spare and put in in the back of the suv.The bow hook kept scrapping the rim and tire.

I solved that issue after two blown tires, I back in fast as soon as backend starts to float and the best – I removed spare from bottom and mounted on the side- drivers side ,works great and is a lot easier to remove if you have a flat, no more laying on the ground, wet and dirty to hold the bolts for removal, if you have tried by yourself, just get the side mount that lines up the tire with the ones on the ground and gets it high enough to avoid any other issues. works for old folks!! Getting the boat in faster and deeper helps.I had it knock mine off the bead but never split it. Also, the Power off works ,sometimes, but you risk hitting the crossmember beam. I have done that also and torn my Hambys loose! Kinda have to find a happy medium. I know it doesnt help with your situation but it is some advice.

I live in Ohio now, previously Atlanta for a year then dallas for quite a few. It has happend at 3 different lakes here. Ill give the quick launch a try but seems like a co-angler might not be able to handle such a manuever. I thought about making a plate of some sort and carpet it and put it over the tire to protect it.
