anyone?? Bass Cat??
There was a previous post asking a question about replacing the gps antennae. Im not certain if they were referring to only the antennae or to the units as well but this was BCBs response…..”BCB does not install fuses in production. That would be an after mfg. install.”Maybe BCBs will be on later and answer the question for you, but I would take it to mean they do not install inline fuses. I found another post where they were having problem with no power to units and BCBs responded again….”We do not put fuses in line on any LCR installation at BCB. No problems shorting without and lots of problems with.”I bought my Sabre second-hand and it only had flashers. I installed my own Lowrance 520-C and the directions specifically say to have an inline fuse so I did install one. Thats probably just for their protection if something does go wrong with the unit and you did not install an inline fuse then they can say it is your fault. Just my opinion. My Cat had the fuses at the battery when I bought it. I rewired my graphs, and put the graph fuses in a block under the dash, and to me, it allows for a quicker fix if theres a problem. As far as the mount, I mounted my new graph with stainless steel screws, and they have held well. My only advice would be to make sure you use a drill bit that fits the screw, and not use one to small. The fiberglass is really strong, and you can break these screws off during instulation. If theres any doubt about the drill bit size, go small, then test the screw before you mount the unit. It should fit snugly, but not sound like its tearing the fiberglass. But remember, you cant fix a pilot hole thats to big.If I had it to do over, Id probably bolt in a Ram Mount, as I believe it provides a tad more “bounce” protection.Just my 2 cents.
The newer in line fuses work alright. Though BCB does not install fuses in line on boats. We only depend on the protection in the boat to protect from boat damage. The factory has not adopted the in line fuses for varied reasons. Many install them as suggested by the depth finder companies in aftermarket installations.
I am installing an HDS 5 in place of the X52 Lowrance on the bow of my 06 Sabre. I am going to attach my hds5 power cord to the power wires that supply the X52. My question is, are these power wires fused somewhere in the boat or, do I need to install an inline fuse? Will screws be strong enough to intall the 5 or should it be bolted thru? I dont know if I could reach to install bolts. Thanks
Someone, somewhere, must have mounted an HDS 5 on the bow of a Sabre
I had my 7 inch Lowrance attached with the bracket only in the basin and worked just fine and never came loose. On my new boat, they drilled a large hole under the troller base where the actual foot pedal would sit and inserted their hands through the hole and put a backing plate on for the ram mount. Then a large plastic cover was place over the hole. I dont think there is any way for you to get your hand inside to put a plate in unless you cut a hole.
Thanks. Ill will likely use screws to hold mine in. I am not going to drill holes if I dont need to.
