Leaving Sunday morn. for Falcon, first time going ,I purchased my Mexico fishing license because of the border running across the lake I have been told its risky to cross over and to stay on texas side. Anybody have any input?ThanksTim Rawls
I have been three times in the last two years, talk to James at Falcon lake tackle for tips. My last trip I learned the hard way braid is a must if you dont want to loose a fish of a lifetime. Water temps are on the rise it should be on, the mexican side seems to be the shallow slow sloping banks and coves and Texas seems to have more rocks and steaper points. Tigers is a lake all by itself. Ive had no problems, use good judgment watch the weather and use your favorite stiff rod. Good LuckRodney
I have been to falcon a few times since i grew up only 3 hours from there. I have always elt pretty safe going to the mexico side and havent had any problems. Just watch out for gill nets. James at falcon lake tackle with most definatley help you out with what the fish are doing right now. I know that there have been some pigs caught recently and they should be spawning now that the weather has started to warm back up. Definately use braid or you will loose alot of fish in the bushes. Good luck down there and give us a report when you get back. I should be going down there pretty soon as well. Tight Lines and Good Fishinghttp://www.demonrods.com/
I was there last weekend. the water temps on the US side were in the high 50s mostly 58. it was much warmer on the Mexico side at 64. I caught some fish on the US side but the more consistant bite was on the Mexico side. We had a front come through and it was 39 on Sat morning but hit mid 70s on Sunday. Most fish were caught on watermelon brush hogs pitching the brush in 4-5 foot of water. heavy stringer was a little over 28lbs and there were a few 20+ stringers also. Big bass was 10lbs 9oz if it stays warm and the water warms up just a little you should have a blast. Hope you got a room because the place is packed , Zapata looked like a rolling boat show. good luck let us know how you do.Last edited by txmrbass on February 18th, 2010, 1:12 am, edited 1 time in total.
Falcon is my backyard, I fish it pretty often and have never seen the Mexican authorities, but by no means will I risk not having a license. As long as everyone in the boat has one, you should be okay. How many days are you gonna fish, Im gonna try to make it out there, and It would be nice to meet up with a fellow Cat owner.
There is a good sized group from Mount Ida, Arkansas leaving out Saturday for falcon. A couple of them have Bass Cats. Good ppl and a preety roudy bunch around a campfire. WATCH OUT for them !!!!
Sound just like me, lol. If my Cat is back from the shop, I will be out there. Are you coming down? Also, log on to falconlaketackle.com they normaly update the fishing report every couple of days or so.Last edited by chopperwolf on February 18th, 2010, 2:45 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Leaving sat morning instead of sunday staying until 27 feb We have rooms reserved at Holiday Inn in zapata Thanks for all the info.Tim Rawls
i just back this morning been down for 5 days fishing was tough becuase the when blowing 100 mph per hour the fish are bitting but what we found they want chase a bait they like you to flip in the middle of the bush and dead stick it for about 15 20 seconds and then just barley pick up on it and see if it is heavy alot of people are saying that the cold weather has pushed back the spawn but we caught about 6 8 pounders and 4 or 5 6 pounders and they were all spawned out did catch some small 3 and 4 pounders that had some eggs for some good tips on how fishing is see robert at roberts tackle he gave us some good info and also do not pay attention to the type about big baits everything we caught was on regular size thing the best being baby brush hogs or rage tail lizards and fish the south end of the lake by zapata state park the water was warm there and not as stained benieas venitas Cover and coyote Cover on the Mexican side was the best
Got my brother headed down there next week as well. Bumblebee Cougar FTD… dont know where they are staying though.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
