Hey guys, I got the new conversion dash put in my PII from the old BP100. It looks great and everything works except……………….. The tach. What wire do I need to be chasing down to see why the tach is not working. Thanks, Brian
If you were having similar issues prior to the conversion, we suspect the voltage regulators or stator. The positive is Purple and the Tach sender is Grey.
Hey guys The cranking battery will not stay charged. One a 2 day tourny its pretty much drained down. That would be the voltage Reg, correct? What is the part number for that on a 1996 merc 150EFI
Yes it could be, and it also could have been the major reason for a dash not working if this is what drove you to the conversion. The voltage regulator has no voltage indications on the gauges and you will loose tach also. BCB
The new guage that has volts does show the current battery voltage and it does drop down as I am using the live wells. Once my LCX 28HD states I am at 11.5 volts I start the boat and it does NOT recover the charge. So whats the damage I am looking at for a new Voltage Regulator.????????? Again its a 1996 Merc 150 EFI SN# 06320802
Yes, it appears to be a voltage issue related to usually the regulators, or stator. You should have 13.6 to 14.2 with the engine running. Though if it is a stator your in for some dollars.
I feel comfortable stating that I feel like its the volt reg since i found the red wire had rubbed against the block and shorted out. What or who do I contact to get a price on this part? Brian PS. Is there an ohm test that I can do to determine if the stater is ok or output test and which wires? Thanks again
You might check on the Mercury board of Bass Boat Central, as lots of technicians frequent there. The regulator is probably fried. Mercury only part from what we know. BCB
The voltage regulator was bad. I got one locally and everything is back up and running. Tach included! Thanks for the guide and direction BCB. As always we see why you guys win the JD power award for Customer Satisfaction. Yall are Great. Thanks for making dreams come true. Brian Trotter
Bet thats what was wrong with your dash too. Its a very common misdiagnosis and people frequently blame the dash when it is other items such as batt, connections, breakers, stator, regulator, pumps, harness and etc…
